VUHS track team fares well at meet

BURLINGTON — Vergennes Union High School athletes earned four top-four finishes at Saturday’s opening indoor track and field meet at the University of Vermont, including second-place finishes by Chris Castillo and Ally Stearns, a third by Castillo and a fourth by Paige Stolen.
The two Mount Abraham competitors also fared well in the large field that included many Division I athletes: Natalie May picked up a fifth-place finish, and Chris Carter earned a seventh.
The complete local boys’ results were:
•  Triple jump: 2. Castillo, V, 37 feet, 1.5 inches.
•  Long jump: 3. Castillo, V, 17-5.
•  55 meters: 15. Castillo, V, 7:34; 26. Sebby Crowell, V, 7:54; 40. Chris Leach, V, 7:74.
•  300: 12. Castillo, V, 42.04; 13. Crowell, V, 42.24; 23. Carter, M, 43.84; 25. Leach, V, 44.24.
•  600: 7. Carter, M, 1:41.64.
The complete local girls’ results were:
•  Shot put: 2. Stearns, V, 30-7.5.
•  600: 4. Stolen, V, 1:58.44.
•  1,000: 5. May, M, 3:49.
