ADDISON COUNTY — On Monday Vermont State Police wrapped up a week-long investigation of a Nov. 14 burglary in Goshen and troopers arrested Scott H. Clark, 30, of Goshen and cited him for burglary.
Troopers from the New Haven barracks said their investigation revealed that Clark entered the unsecured residence in Goshen and allegedly stole property, including the victims’ travelers checks and a 65-year-old engagement ring worth more than $6,000. Police alleged that Clark subsequently pawned the ring in Rutland for $200.
Clark was scheduled to answer the burglary charge in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Dec. 30.
Vermont State Police are continuing to urge citizens to secure their homes, gold and silver, and to place sentimental heirloom jewelry in unique locations to aid in preventing these types of crimes.
Meanwhile, state police are investigating the theft of a vehicle from a residence in Goshen sometime between 10 p.m. on Nov. 30 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 1. After the vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center database and a “Be on the Lookout” warning was issued to police, the vehicle was recovered by the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department in Proctor. In other recent activity troopers:
•  On Nov. 24 at 7:30 a.m. responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Starksboro. Police report that 42-year-old Mark Harris of Bristol was driving a Ford pickup eastbound on the highway when he lost control of the pickup and crossed over the centerline. The truck exited the north side of the road and struck a rock embankment. The trooper reported that the road was icy. Harris was unhurt, but the truck was totaled.
•  On Nov. 25 fielded a report that at some point between 11:30 p.m. the previous night and 7 a.m. on Nov. 25 unknown individuals forced entry into a shed off Ben Roberts Road in Starksboro. They then stole multiple items including tools and a chainsaw. The total value of the items stolen is in excess of $1,500.
Evidence was collected at the scene and is being sent to the Vermont state lab for further analysis. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact VSP.
•  On Nov. 25 at 10:39 a.m. responded to a two-car collision in Monkton. Police report that Richard Bodington, 18, of Hinesburg was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy northbound on Covered Bridge Road approaching the intersection of Rotax Road. He told police that as he began to slow down for the stop sign at the intersection his brakes failed and he was unable to slow down with his brakes. Bodington then attempted down shifting and could not slow down that way, either. The vehicle continued through the stop sign and into the intersection and struck a 1999 Chevy Blazer driven by Marshall Douglas, 20, of Ferrisburgh westbound on Rotax Road.
Bodington sustained minor injuries and was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care for evaluation; Douglas was not injured. Both vehicles were totaled.
•  On Nov. 25 requested the public’s help in locating a missing Ripton man — 54-year-old James P. Daignault. He was last seen the previous Saturday at the Middlesex Park and Ride by friends with whom he had gone to a food shelf in Burlington. This past Monday, Dec. 2, at 9:20 p.m. troopers responded to a report of a car over an embankment off Route 125 in Ripton and found Daignault dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation. •  On Nov. 25 looked into a report of a forced-entry burglary at a home on Dean Road in Ferrisburgh that day between 1 and 5 p.m. The trooper said her investigation suggests that someone broke through a rear door and stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Police are specifically looking for a collectable antique baby fork of solid silver that had a partially raised imprint of Peter Rabbit on the end. The victim said this was a unique piece that was inherited from a family member. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  On Nov. 26 at 5:41 a.m. responded to a report of a milk truck off the road in Addison. Police report that Jonathan D. Pariseau, 52, of Brandon was driving a 2006 International truck and milk tanker southbound on Lake Street when he lost control of the truck, which traveled off the west side of the road, collided with a telephone wire box and rolled onto its side. The truck and tanker sustained moderate damage. Diesel fuel and milk spilled from the vehicle. The Agency of Natural Resources was made aware of the spill and cleanup was initiated. Pariseau was taken by the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad to Porter Hospital to be treated for bumps and bruises. The trooper issued Pariseau a traffic ticket for losing control of a vehicle, which carries a $220 fine and four points on insurance.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Addison Fire Department and the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.
•  On Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. responded to a report of a one-car crash on Richville Road in Shoreham; police reported that the roads were snow and ice covered as it snowed. The 17-year-old driver from Plattsburgh, N.Y., told police he lost traction and then lost control of his 2008 Jeep Patriot, which went off the road and over an embankment. The driver was taken to Porter Medical Center for evaluation of head and back pain; the passenger was uninjured.  The vehicle appeared to be a total loss.
•  On Nov. 26 at 7:46 p.m. responded to a reported two-car collision at the intersection of River Road and Route 116 in Bristol. Police said it was snowing and the roads were snow-covered. Both vehicles sustained minor contact damage, and the 16-year-old driver of one car was transported to Porter Hospital in Middlebury for neck injuries.
•  On Nov. 26 at 9:20 p.m. received a complaint of a theft from a Richville Road home in Shoreham. The homeowner told police that two individuals were at the residence looking for assistance because of a broken down vehicle. After the two individuals left, the victim noticed a large sum of cash missing from the residence. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  On Nov. 28 at 2 a.m. at a traffic stop on Route 7 in New Haven cited Michelle Cousino, 25, of New Haven for driving under the influence and driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Nov. 28 at approximately 9:30 p.m. responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Quaker and Forge Hill roads in Lincoln. When the trooper arrived, he found that the driver had fled on foot, apparently down the road to a friend’s house. With the help of Bristol police, the trooper located the driver, identified as Kimberly Jimmo, 18, of Lincoln. He cited Jimmo for driving under the influence.
•  On Nov. 28 located in Salisbury and arrested Andrew Malzac, 21, of Bristol on a felony escape warrant after he failed to appear for court-ordered work crew. Police had arrested Malzac for allegedly committing petit larceny on Nov. 25, 2012. After his arrest in Salisbury last week he was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility without incident.
•  On Nov. 29 at approximately 9:30 a.m. allegedly saw 32-year-old Justin Kirby of Orwell driving a green 2000 Ford Explorer with Vermont plates. The trooper cited Kirby for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license. The trooper noted that Kirby had five previous citations for the same offense in the last five years.
•  On Nov. 29 at approximately 6:20 p.m. responded to a one-car crash on Bittersweet Falls Road in Weybridge. Police report that the driver of the red Mitsubishi, identified as 24-year-old Eli Holmquist of Weybridge, was headed home when he lost control of his vehicle and slid head-on into a tree. No injuries were reported but the trooper judged the vehicle to be a total loss due to the damage sustained by the engine and front end. The trooper said her investigation suggests that possible distraction and icy road conditions were contributing factors in the accident. Alcohol was determined to not be a contributing factor.
•  On Nov. 29 at 9:30 p.m. responded with Bristol police to a domestic disturbance at a Bristol home. By the time police arrived, the accused — 34-year-old Adam Hineman of Bristol — had fled the residence. Hineman was later found in his vehicle and taken into custody. Police cited Hineman for domestic assault, driving under the influence and interfering with emergency services. He was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $10,000 bail.
•  On Nov. 30 at 3:15 a.m. a trooper was headed back to Addison County after lodging a male at the Chittenden County Correctional Center on charges of domestic assault and DUI when the trooper saw a vehicle being operated erratically on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh village. The trooper stopped the car and cited Damien Stearns, 22, of Panton for driving under the influence.
•  Investigated a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Route 125 in Bridport on Nov. 30 at 4:30 a.m. Police reported that driver Shawna Arthers, 21, of Vergennes fell asleep and lost control of her 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, which left the road and rolled onto its side before coming to rest in a cornfield. No injuries were reported, but the entire driver’s side of the Chevy was damaged.
•  On Dec. 1 at 11:40 a.m. fielded a theft complaint at the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department’s Monkton Pond access. The complainant told police that while they were skating on the pond, someone stole their coat and shoes. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  On Dec. 2 at 7:17 a.m. were alerted to the theft of a Poulin Pro chainsaw from a shed off York Hill Road in Lincoln. The saw has a 16-inch bar and an estimated value of $175. Troopers from the New Haven barracks report that they have seen a recent spike in chainsaw thefts in recent weeks. Troopers are asking citizens to make sure their chainsaws are secured to prevent theft. Anyone with information on this incident or tips is asked to contact VSP.
•  On Dec. 2 at 2:34 p.m. stopped a vehicle driven by Tara Tower, 36, of North Ferrisburgh on North Main Street in the city of Rutland. The trooper issued Tower a citation for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Dec. 2 at 2:43 p.m. went to a crash site on Route 30 in Cornwall. Police said Pauline Maguire, 83, of Shoreham fell asleep while driving a 2014 Subaru Forester northbound on Route 30. The vehicle crossed over the southbound lane and left the west side of the roadway prior, and it struck a utility pole. Both Maguire and her 89-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
