Mount Abe school board seeks to fill two vacancies

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School Board is looking for Bristol residents to fill two vacancies that have opened on the 13-member board. Board members Dick Merrill and Gary Farnsworth recently resigned before the completion of their terms.
The Bristol Elementary School board will fill the vacancies.
The Bristol board asks applicants to submit letters of interest by Wednesday, Dec. 4. The body will then meet with candidates on Monday, Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Bristol Elementary School. If there are enough qualified candidates, the Bristol school board hopes to appoint new members Dec. 9, Addison Northeast Supervisory Union data and communication specialist Karen Wheeler said.
Appointed candidates will serve until Town Meeting Day next year, at which point they will have to be elected to serve the rest of their terms. Farnsworth’s term expires in 2014, so the candidate who fills his seat will run for their own, three-year term. Merrill’s term runs through 2016, so the person that replaces him will run for the remaining three years of that term.
Letters of interest can be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to Bristol Elementary School Board, c/o Superintendent David Adams, Addison Northeast Supervisory Union, 72 Munsill Ave., Suite 601, Bristol, VT 05443.
