Volleyball season ends in quarterfinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Nov. 8 with a 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-18) loss to Amherst in a NESCAC quarterfinal match played at Williams College. The Panthers finished the season with a record of 18-7.
This was the third meeting of the season between the two teams, with Amherst taking a 3-0 decision at Middlebury on Oct. 11. The Panthers returned the favor at the Hall of Fame Classic in Springfield a week before this match, emerging with a 3-2 victory.
Middlebury held Amherst to a .023 hitting percentage in the first set in the 25-21 win. The second set was a marathon as the Jeffs held on to tie the match at 1-1 with the 29-27 victory. Despite hitting .308 in the third set, Middlebury fell behind 2-1 as Amherst hit at over 36 percent to earn the 25-21 win. The Jeffs sealed the match in the third set, holding the Panthers to a .022 hitting percentage in the 25-18 win.
Seniors Megan Jarchow and Amy Hart ended their careers with 24 kills apiece to lead the Panther offense. Lizzy Reed earned a team-high 23 digs, followed by Jarchow with 16 and Hart with 14. Hannah Blackburn dished out 55 assists in the contest, while Jarchow had three service aces.
