VERGENNES — Vergennes police this past weekend issued three citations for driving under the influence of alcohol, including one to an Addison resident who is already facing charges in relation to a string of burglaries in Addison County in 2013 and earlier.
On Saturday, police arrested Nicole Burgos, 29, of Addison for refusing to be tested for DUI. Police said they stopped Burgos’ car for going the wrong way on the one-way portion of South Maple Street near Main Street.
Back on Oct. 3, Vermont State Police cited Burgos for felony possession of stolen property, a charge they said in a press release “is relative to the wave of 2013 Addison County burglaries that subsequently led to the July 31 arrest of Burgos’ domestic partner, Raymond R. Ritchie.”
Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel on Monday said Burgos would also be cited for possession of marijuana after a small amount of the drug was found in her car on Saturday. Burgos was lodged in the Chittenden County Correctional Center following the incident.
Burgos and Ritchie, 37, shared an Addison home at which VSP allege items stolen from at least 52 different properties were found during the July 31 search. Both are also facing a marijuana cultivation charge stemming from that search of the home. Ritchie is being held without bail in the Marble Valley Correctional Center awaiting trial.
Vergennes police also cited two drivers for DUI on Sunday: Andrew Gendreau, 47, of First Street in Vergennes, who was stopped on West Main Street for failing to use a turn signal, and Kaleb Gagnon, 21, of Brandon, who was noticed during an unrelated investigation at the City Limits bar and then seen driving in a parking lot and stopped nearby.
In other action between Oct. 21 and 27, Vergennes police:
•  On Oct. 21 responded to a report of drug paraphernalia found on North Maple Street.
•  On Oct. 21 spoke to a worker who a School Street resident alleged had failed to complete yard work for which he had been paid.
•  On Oct. 21 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Hillside Drive.
•  On Oct. 21 looked into a report that a city man had made an inappropriate call to another man’s wife.
•  On Oct. 22 cited Craig Nealy, 57, of Ferrisburgh, for driving with a suspended license, criminal offense, after stopping his car for speeding on West Main Street.
•  On Oct. 22 dealt with a noise dispute among neighbors at a Main Street apartment building; police suggested to the landlord that tenants in an upstairs apartment get carpeting to quiet the noise of children’s feet.
•  On Oct. 22 helped Department of Motor Vehicles officials at a truck safety checkpoint on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.
•  On Oct. 22 searched a man after he used a bathroom at a Main Street business and employees found drug paraphernalia there; police found nothing.
•  On Oct. 23 ticketed a man for throwing household trash into a business Dumpster.
•  On Oct. 23 served subpoenas to city residents on behalf of the state’s attorney’s office.
•  On Oct. 23 were told a customer had failed to return videos to a Main Street business; as of Monday, police were still looking for the individual.
•  On Oct. 23 issued a no-trespass order to a local woman who refused to leave a couple’s North Green Street residence; police said she was the male resident’s ex-wife.
•  On Oct. 23 helped VSP on Maple Street in Waltham with an involuntary commitment to the Rutland Hospital.
•  On Oct. 23 took a stray dog to the Vergennes Animal Hospital.
•  On Oct. 24 issued a relief-from-abuse order to a male First Street resident.
•  On Oct. 24 helped a motorist get into a locked car at Northlands Job Corps.
•  On Oct. 25 took a report that a car headlight had been broken while the car was parked at Shaw’s Supermarket.
•  On Oct. 25 responded to the John Graham Shelter at the request of shelter personnel to remove a man in violation of its no-alcohol policy; police said the man became suicidal, and they took him to Porter Hospital to meet with the Counseling Service of Addison County.
•  On Oct. 26 received a tip about drug activity in the Vergennes area.
•  On Oct. 26 were called to Meadow Lane to deal with a landlord-tenant dispute, and advised the landlord on proper eviction procedure. Police returned on Oct. 27 to calm the parties again.
•  On Oct 26 checked the welfare of a woman living in a Main Street apartment, who was found to be fine.
•  On Oct. 26 responded to a report of a disorderly man at the New Haven Road Eagles club, and calmed him and got him a ride home.
•  On Oct. 27 went to City Limits to look into the report of a fight, and discovered a brawl between two men had been joined by two female acquaintances. Police as of Monday were still taking statements and investigating the incident, and they said assault charges were possible.
•  On Oct. 27 spoke to two First Street residents involved in a custodial dispute.
•  On Oct. 27 heard a complaint from a Main Street resident of a burning toxic odor; police believe it came from a nearby furnace starting up.
