Otter Valley football beats Winooski
WINOOSKI — The Otter Valley Union High School football team pulled away from host Winooski in Friday’s second half to post a 47-19 Division III victory. Winooski remained winless at 0-7, while the Otters improved to 4-2, 4-1 in Division III, and could be in good position to host a first-round playoff game. They host Oxbow at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Three first-half OV turnovers allowed the Spartans to keep the game close. The OV miscues including a 50-yard interception return by Andrew Decarreau that made it 14-12 and a fumble of the opening kickoff that was followed by Winooski quarterback Kyle Bigelow hitting Austin Mayo for a 50-yard score.
But OV running back Mike Winslow rushed for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns, two in the third quarter as the Otters took command.
OV quarterback John Winslow contributed touchdown passes to Derek Bassette and Justin Wedin. Decarreau ran for a second-half TD for WHS.
