Eagles nip Jacks in OT, 34-32
WINDSOR — The Mount Abraham/Vergennes football team scored two dramatic touchdowns late in Saturday’s Division III clash to defeat host Windsor, 34-32, in overtime.
Tommy Lee Hodsden’s rushing touchdown and two-point conversion in overtime overcame the 32-26 lead the Jacks had just taken on a 10-yard pass from Nick Kapuscinski to Hunter Patenaude to open the extra session. But Windsor’s two-point try failed.
The Eagles (4-1) only reached overtime when, with 1:36 to go in regulation, Aaron Rowell connected with Mike White for a 53-yard touchdown on a flea flicker play.
The Eagles took the lead in the first quarter on a Hodsden run; he finished with 180 yards on 16 carries. Windsor (2-3), however, soon took and kept the lead for most of the afternoon despite two rushing TD’s from Eagle fullback Austin Layayette.
Mount Abe had trouble containing Windsor back Ethan Hill, who rushed for all four Jack TDs in regulation and totaled 165 yards on the ground. Windsor fell to 2-3.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host league foe Oxbow (2-3). Of the three opponents they have remaining, only Mill River (4-1) now has a winning record.
