Vermont State Police Log: Car colines with horse in Monkton

ADDISON COUNTY — At approximately 7 p.m. on this past Saturday, Sept. 21, Vermont State Police were called to a horse vs. vehicle collision in the Monkton Boro in Monkton
Driver David Wood, 61, of South Burlington told Trooper Armstrong that he and his wife were headed to a friend’s house when a large, dark-colored horse came running onto the roadway. Wood said that by the time the horse was visible it was too late to avoid the collision.
The horse, a 22-year-old male named “Dan,” had taken himself for a walk down the road after breaking away from his caretaker, who was trying to get him from the pasture to the barn for the evening.
Although bruised, Dan’s owners didn’t expect that any bones were broken in the collision and the horse was able to limp his way home.
Woods’ vehicle, a 2012 Volvo sedan, did sustain moderate damage to the front bumper, hood and driver’s side paneling. No human injuries were reported.
