VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued a pair of citations to Vergennes residents on Thursday, Aug. 29, that stemmed from earlier incidents. One citation resulted from the completion of an ongoing investigation, and the other from an allegedly positive drug test.
On the 29th city police cited Jessica L. Whitney, 26, of East Street for uttering a forged instrument. Police allege that Whitney knowingly wrote bad checks on a closed account earlier this summer. An investigation remains open, police said, and further charges in this case are possible.
On Aug. 29 police also cited Linda L. Williams, 51, into court for driving under the influence of drugs, and careless and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Those charges stem from a one-car crash on Panton Road on July 4. Police said they waited for the results of a blood test that they received just last week before citing Williams, a Main Street resident.
In other incidents between Aug. 26 and Sept. 1, Vergennes police:
•  On Aug. 26 helped the New Haven constable serve civil court paperwork at a Comfort Hill residence.
•  On Aug. 27 deployed members of the department’s Police Explorers Club to do a speed survey on South Maple Street.
•  On Aug. 27 talked with organizers of a dance on the city green after a neighbor complained the event was noisy and ran late.
•  On Aug. 27 looked for a suspicious car on West Main Street that was gone when police arrived.
•  On Aug. 27 monitored speed on South Maple Street and issued nine warnings and a ticket.
•  On Aug. 27 checked out a report of illegal drug activity on Second Street, but found no problem.
•  On Aug. 27 issued a no-trespass order to a juvenile after he reportedly was looking in windows of a First Street home.
•  On Aug. 28 checked out a report of screaming near the sewer treatment plant, but found nothing; people in the area also said they had heard nothing.
•  On Aug. 28 spoke with a group of juveniles inside a Panton Road building and determined they had permission to be there.
•  On Aug. 28 looked into an alleged underage drinking party on West Main Street, but found no problem.
•  On Aug. 29 helped Vermont State Police with a drunk-driving arrest on West Main Street.
•  On Aug. 30 helped Vergennes Union Elementary School run an evacuation drill.
•  On Aug. 31 after hearing a report of an assault in a downtown parking lot, determined it was a pushing and shoving match and then took one drunken man to his parents’ home.
•  On Aug. 31 looked into an alleged underage drinking party on West Main Street, but found only adults drinking.
•  On Aug. 31 stopped a car on Route 7 after a report that it was being driven erratically, but determined the driver was not impaired.
•  On Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 tried to help a hospitalized Walker Avenue woman by contacting her landlord to help take care of her cat; eventually, she said she would try to reach family members.
•  On Sept. 1 quieted late-night partiers on First Street; later, police also returned a phone and purse that one partygoer had left on the scene.
•  On Sept. 1 looked into an allegation of child abuse on Cataract Place and determined it was unfounded.
•  On Sept. 1 operated what they called a successful drunk-driving checkpoint on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, along with VSP and Bristol police and the Addison County Sheriff’s Department.
•  On Sept. 1 looked unsuccessfully for a car reported to be speeding on South Water Street.
