WalkOver Gallery to exhibit works of Nicaraguan artist

BRISTOL — The WalkOver Gallery in Bristol will be showing the art of Nicaraguan artist Chepe Cuadra from Sept. 1 through Oct. 25.
Cuadra, who has been making art for three decades, has been painting figures from the back on and off for many years as a way to translate and record the intimate and particular emotions, situations, and history of his years living as a foreigner in multiple countries. After many years living away from Nicaragua, Cuadra went back to his native land and looked for images that enabled him to reconnect with his past and helped him recover his identity.
The show at the WalkOver, “Back Portraits / In Search of an Identity,” is a collection of these portraits. There will be a reception at the gallery on Friday, Sept. 27, from 6-8 p.m.
A St. Albans resident, Cuadra earned an MFA from Johnson State College, where he works as an art teacher.
His work has been exhibited in the U.S., Spain, Italy, Colombia and Nicaragua.
More information on the artist and images of his work is at www.chepecuadra.com.
The WalkOver Gallery is at 15 Main St. in Bristol. For more information call 453-3188, ext. 2.
