Sgt. Poynter returns to Addison County Sheriff’s Department
MIDDLEBURY — Sheriff Don Keeler has announced the return of Paul H. Poynter to the Addison County Sheriff’s Department after an 18 year absence.
Poynter began his law enforcement career at the Addison County Sheriff’s Department in 1988. Deciding that he wished to pursue a full-time career in law enforcement, he attended and graduated from the Vermont Police Academy in 1995.
Poynter has experience working for Vergennes, Bristol and Shelburne police departments, and the U.S. Marshal Service. Most recently he worked for the Lexington, S.C., Sheriff’s Department, where he served for the past five years as a Road Patrol Shift Supervisor of six to 20 officers at any one time.
“We welcome Paul back to the Addison County Sheriff’s Department where he will assume the duties of patrol supervisor holding the rank of sergeant,” Keeler said.
