Many Champs, Panthers claim individual league swim titles
ST. ALBANS — Members of the Vergennes Champs and Middlebury Panthers swim teams had nine champions and posted many good times at the Champlain Valley Swim League Championship this past Friday and Saturday in St. Albans.
The Town of Essex Swim Team was tops in the eight-team field, scoring 2,000 points. The Champs scored 926.5 points to claim sixth place overall and the Panthers were seventh with 799.5 points.
Vergennes boasted two individual champions — Anna Rakowski won the girls’ 10-and-under 25-yard butterfly and Noah Konczal won the boys’ U8 25-yard breaststroke — and also took the girls’ U10 100-yard freestyle relay (Jordan Jewell, Sydney Jewell, Ava Konczal, Rakowski).
The Middlebury team saw two swimmers win two individual events each — Oliver Poduschnick claimed the boys’ U10 25-yard fly and 25-yard breast titles, and Ellie Ross earned the girls’ U10 25-yard breast and 25-yard free crowns — and Nora Wootten won the girls’ U8 25-yard free race. Plus, the Panther quarter of Fraser Milligan, Will Carpenter, Thomas Denton and Poduschnick won the boys’ U10 100-yard freestyle relay.
