Vergennes Lions Club auction set July 24

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Area Lions Club will hold its annual live charity auction on Wednesday, July 24, at 6 p.m. at Vergennes Union High School. The auction raises money for the club’s many projects in the Vergennes-Bristol area. The club is again soliciting items from area merchants and individuals in the form of goods, services and/or gift certificates. Each Lion has also been asked to contribute one new item to the auction.
It is that time when the community is asked for donations of saleable items that can be picked up or dropped off at the high school on Tuesday, July 23, between 5:30 and 9 p.m. All good-quality items will be accepted except old computers, used TVs, or items that would be better going to the transfer station. Any Vergennes Lion can be contacted for pickup, but the following are suggestions: Barry Aldinger (877-3725), Debbie Brace (475-2434), Bruce Bushey (349-9749), Tom Jackman (475-2450), Scott Lynk (877-3775), and Larry Simino (759-2448).
The Vergennes Lions contribute about $30,000 annually to the community through donations to the Vergennes Area Food Shelf, the John Graham Shelter, Bixby Library, Special Olympics, HOPE for holiday food baskets and gifts, Elderly Services, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Vergennes, the Haunted Forest/Warehouse, children’s fishing derby and Tropical Storm Irene relief; building and installing accessible ramps; providing eyeglasses and hearing aids to the needy; and funding college scholarships to graduating seniors and camp scholarships to the Austine/Green Mountain Lions Camp for children with hearing problems.
The Lions remind donors that “the more that is raised with this fundraiser, the more that will be given back to the community,” since the Lions’ motto is “We Serve.”
