Veysey wins a car in annual Lions Club raffle
VERGENNES — Following the Memorial Day festivities, the Vergennes Lions Club drew the winners’ tickets for their 2013 Vehicle Raffle. The winner of the grand price, a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, was Katherine Veysey of Addison. The second-prize winner of the Cloud Nine Fishing Charter was Audrey Tucker of Vergennes, and the third-prize winner of the stay at River’s Edge Campground was Lynette Delisle of Vergennes.
Club President Kitty Oxholm thanked all the members of the Lions Club for all they did to make their fundraising efforts so successful, saying that these funds will go a long way to meeting the needs of our community projects. She also thanked everyone in the community for buying the raffle tickets, and for being such strong supporters of the Vergennes Lions Club.
Each year, the Vergennes Lions Club raises, and then donates to community needs, about $30,000. Those needs range from high school scholarships, eyeglasses, hearing aids and accessible ramps for homes to support for Bixby Library, Vergennes Community Food Shelf, the Boys and Girls Club, HOPE, Elderly Services, Special Olympics Addison County, Addison County Readers, John Graham Shelter and others.
The next big effort is the annual Vergennes Lions Club Auction, which will be held at the Vergennes Union High School gym on Wednesday, July 24, at 6 p.m. The Lions are accepting donations of good saleable items. Make arrangements by calling Lion Barry Aldinger at 877-3725, Debbie Brace at 475-2434 or any other Lions Club member.
