Middlebury’s Todd Stone stretches his lead in auto racing
SOUTH PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Middlebury racecar driver Todd Stone won one race and finished fourth in another on Saturday at South Plattsburgh’s Airborne Speedway to pad his Modified point lead.
Stone drove the G. Stone Motors No. 1x to his second win of the season in the completion of a race that had been halted by rain the week before, and then started 12th and placed fourth in the Della Auto/Subway 30-lap main event that followed.
Stone has a 38-point lead in the Ernie’s Tools Modified standings, with Leon Gonyo of Chazy, N.Y., in second. Gonyo recorded a pair of sixth-place finishes on Saturday, while Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake, N.Y., won the second half of the doubleheader.
Stone told the crowd he was dedicating his win to his daughter.
“My daughter Hillary graduated from Middlebury High School today,” Stone said. “This is for her.”
Richie Turner of Fairfax won the Furniture World of Vermont Renegade 100, and Robin Wood of Plattsburgh, N.Y., won the Limited Late Model main event.
