Whiting man stabbed, beaten in home invasion

WHITING — Vermont State Police are looking for two suspects who allegedly entered a Whiting man’s home during the night of June 6 and beat and stabbed him while he lay sleeping.
Police said the victim, 30-year-old Efrain Jimez DelaCruze, reported two men entered his Route 30 home at around 1:15 a.m. and hit him with metal pipes and stabbed him with a knife.
A friend rushed the victim to the Porter Hospital Emergency Department, where he was treated for multiple lacerations and stab wounds, according to police. DelaCruze was also found to have wounds consistent with being assaulted with a blunt instrument, authorities said. He was treated by Porter staff and released.
State police said no robbery occurred and that the victim was apparently specifically targeted for what is being labeled a home invasion and aggravated assault.
The victim described one of the male assailants as being shorter, heavy set, with a round face and tanned skin. The victim did not get a good look at the second male suspect, according to police.
The VSP are asking anyone who might have seen a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of 300 Route 30 between 11:30 p.m. on June 5 and 1 a.m. on June 6 to call them at 388-4919.
