ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police closed Burpee Road in Bristol temporarily on the afternoon of May 2 due to a one-vehicle accident with injuries that occurred at approximately 2 p.m.
Roger Jacobs, 45, of Bristol told police he was headed north to the Burlington area for a medical appointment when he lost control of the red Ford pickup he was driving and it left the roadway. Police said their investigation suggests the truck flipped onto its side, slid along the ditch then re-entered the roadway.
Jacobs was cut from the truck by the Bristol Fire Department and transported to Porter Hospital for possible back and neck injuries. Passenger Julie Wilbur, 54, of Middlebury was also transported to Porter due to injury sustained during the collision.
State police said this accident is still under investigation. They were helped at the scene by the Bristol Rescue Squad and Bristol Fire Department.
In other recent activity VSP troopers:
•  On April 28 received a report from a Bridport woman who had been contacted by Visa advising that they had noted suspicious activity on her account. The investigation is ongoing at this time but suggests that the credit card was compromised and used for online purchases by someone other than the credit card owner.
•  On April 28 at approximately 2 p.m. were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle accident off of Route 116 in Starksboro. Investigation suggests that Tom Cardinal, 58, of Starksboro was driving his friend’s Harley-Davidson when he lost control of the motorcycle, drove off the road and through a barbed-wire fence. Cardinal was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care with reports of a possible neck or back injury and severe lacerations to his face and head. He was wearing a fastened helmet at the time of the collision. Police said they suspected that he was driving under the influence, but lab results were pending. Cardinal will be cited for operating an unregistered, uninsured motorcycle with a criminally suspended license.
•  On April 30 at 12:51 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh for an infraction. The driver, identified as David Markwell, 25, of Jericho, had a warrant for his arrest, and police transported him to Chittenden County Court.
•  On April 30 at 5:05 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Young Road in Orwell and cited the driver, Elysia Christian, 23, of Orwell, for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On April 30 were told that between 11 p.m. on April 25 and 7 a.m. the next morning someone had entered vehicles parked off Old Hollow Road in Ferrisburgh and stolen a Garmin GPS and a pair of prescription Ray-Ban sunglasses. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact VSP.
•  On April 30 at 10:01 p.m. responded to a family fight on Hardscrabble Road in Monkton. Police cited Jeffery Tanner, 18, of Monkton for domestic assault and fourth-degree arson. Tanner was lodged at Marble Valley Correctional Center for lack of $2,500 bail.
•  On May 1 received a report of the theft of a Briggs and Stratton generator valued at $1,100 from an unsecured shed in Monkton. •  On May 1 began investigating a burglary that occurred at a residence on Turkey Lane in Panton. Approximately $4,250 in jewelry was stolen from the locked residence. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Leise at the VSP.
•  On May 1 at 5:53 p.m. responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Route 22A in Orwell. Police said their investigation revealed that 22-year-old Samuel L. Latreille of Middlebury failed to yield the right of way to the approaching Ford truck driven by 26-year-old Shonna L. Huestis of Crown Point, N.Y. Both vehicles sustained contact damage; no one required medical attention.
•  On May 1 responded to a burglary complaint on Crane Point in Addison. Someone had entered the residence and stole various items. •  On May 1 at 6:32 p.m. responded to Mountain Road in Monkton for a single-vehicle collision with injuries. Upon arrival the trooper made contact with the driver, who identified herself as Sara P. Koeller, 28, of Starksboro. Further investigation revealed that Koeller was in possession of marijuana, the trooper reported. He cited Koeller for possession of marijuana and careless and negligent operation. The Mercedes-Benz she was driving was considered a total loss.
•  On May 4 at 8 a.m. responded to a two-car collision at the intersection of Lincoln Gap Road and South Lincoln Road in Lincoln. Police said their investigation suggests Douglas Bradley, 55, of Lincoln failed to maintain his lane of travel while negotiating a turn and side-swiped a Pontiac sedan driven by Barbara Martell, 78, of New Haven. No injuries were reported but both Martell’s Pontiac and Bradley’s Volvo wagon were towed from the scene due to disabling damages.
•  On May 2 at 9:11 a.m. were called to investigate vandalism at a seasonal camp on Turkey Lane in Panton. Someone had cut a screen on the camp but nothing was reported stolen. The value of the screen is approximately $50. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  Received a report that on May 2 sometime before 2:41 p.m. someone went into an unlocked vehicle parked at the trailhead parking lot on Mountain Road in Addison and stole approximately $2,200 in personal property. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
•  On May 4 at a little before 2 p.m. responded to a two-car crash on Monkton Road in Bristol. Police said that Joseph L. Linnane, 24, of Milton and Franz P. Collas, 51, of Middlebury were both northbound on the road when both drivers pulled out to pass a slow-moving vehicle and collided with each other in the southbound lane. Both vehicles sustained minor contact damage. There were no injuries. Neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in this collision, which is still under investigation.
•  On May 4 at 7:14 p.m. cited Tara Tower, 36, of Monkton for driving with a criminally suspended license on Hollow Road in Monkton.
•  On May 5 at 9:30 a.m. arrested Joshua McCray, 24, of Bridport on an outstanding warrant for DUI. Police said McCray had marijuana in his possession at the time of the arrest. He was lodged for lack of $500 bail from the DUI warrant.
•  On May 5 at 10:45 a.m. responded to a report that a woman walking on Route 125 in Hancock was obstructing vehicles and causing an annoyance by yelling. Vehicles were having to travel in the other lane of traffic in order to avoid her, which obstructed traffic. Police identified the woman as Elizabeth Cashman, 55, of Graniteville, took her into custody and charged her with disorderly conduct. She was lodged at the Springfield Correctional Center on $250 bail.
•  On May 5 at approximately 12:05 p.m. responded to a one-vehicle crash on Leicester-Whiting Road in Leicester. Police said Leah Kerr, 26, of Brandon was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck too close to the shoulder of the road and went down a steep embankment, striking a telephone pole. Kerr, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to police, was transported to Porter Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Her pickup was totaled.
•  On May 5 received a report from a New Jersey woman that her purse and some belongings in it had been stolen from Bristol Falls off Lincoln Road in Bristol. Anyone with information that might help the police investigation is asked to contact VSP.
•  On May 5 at 10:41 p.m. responded to a report of a fight involving two neighbors on Route 116 South in Bristol. Police cited both Dwayne Roberts, 47, and Matt Hunt, 41, for simple assault.
•  On May 6 received a report that sometime that day or the previous day someone had stolen four tires and rims off a property on Route 17 in Addison. They were snow tires with a Subaru emblem on the rim. Anyone with information in regard to this theft is asked to contact VSP.
