Saturday road race to raise funds for Lincoln school
LINCOLN — The third annual Lincoln Mountain Magic 5K/10K Run-Walk happens Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m., starting at the Lincoln Community School. The courses run through gentle hills in Lincoln providing variety for all athletic levels, and this year cash prizes will be awarded to male/female winners of both races and male/female winners age 12 and under in the 5K. The race is sponsored by the Friends of Lincoln Community School with proceeds supporting educational and enrichment activities at the school.
For those not walking or running there is a lot to enjoy as well, including live music and a pancake breakfast — $3 for a small plate/$5 for a large, with all kinds of pancake fixings. “We want this to be a spring event that attracts not just athletes but the whole community,” said Jen Oldham, one of the organizers. “Race fees are designed to encourage family participation. We hope cash prizes attract competitive runners, and music and good food makes it fun for everyone. Not to mention the money we raise directly benefits our school and children.”
Since Friends of LCS was formed in 2009 it has made over 30 grants to the school to fund a wide variety of items and activities including computers and other classroom technology, field trips, theatrical equipment, books, cultural studies, and musical instruments. “Everything we do is possible because of the generosity of the community and the creativity of teachers to identify cost-effective ways to enrich the educational experience.” said Andrew Furtsch, Friends of LCS board member. “This race is an important event for us.”
Runners/walkers are encouraged to register by May 3 to get a T-shirt. Online registration and more information (including course maps, fees and directions) are at www.friendsoflcs.org. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. Call 802-343-6383 with questions or for more information.
