Police make big heroin bust at Route 7 traffic stop

FERRISBURGH — Vergennes police on Tuesday with the assistance of Vermont State and Bristol police arrested two men at a Ferrisburgh traffic stop and filed multiple drug charges against them, including sale and trafficking of heroin on one of the two and sale of heroin and possession of marijuana on the other.
According to a press release from Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel, Todd Green, 23, of Philadelphia was cited for both sale and trafficking of heroin and for providing false information to a police officer.
Merkel said there was also an outstanding Pennsylvania warrant on Green for a “dangerous drug offense,” although details on that warrant were not immediately available.
Police charged Teiontay Jermaine Braxton, 33, of Burlington with sale of heroin and possession of marijuana. Both men were lodged the Chittenden County Correctional Center in South Burlington for lack of $50,000 cash bail pending an afternoon arraignment in Addison County Superior Court’s criminal division.
According to Merkel, Green and Braxton were passengers in a car that police stopped on Route 7 after police made what they described as “a controlled buy” of heroin in Vermont Agency of Transportation’s Route 22A Park and Ride Lot on the Ferrisburgh-Vergennes boundary.
At the traffic stop, police seized 266 bags of heroin, 8.71 grams of marijuana and $905 of cash. Police said further charges are possible on one of the car’s other occupants.
Merkel said the three departments had been working hard prior to the arrests.
“It was the result of an ongoing investigation,” he said.
More details will be available in the May 2 print and online editions of the Independent after court documents are made public.
This is the latest in a series of arrests in Addison County drug crimes, which have included an arrest in January in Ferrisburgh on the sale of heroine and an bust in Starksboro earlier this month in which police found heroin, guns and money.
