MUHS boys’ stunning victory over Rebels highlights lacrosse action

ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham topped visiting Vergennes and Middlebury rallied to post a big Division win on the road to highlight local high school boys’ lacrosse action late last week. In other games, VUHS, Mount Abe and Otter Valley all dropped D-II road games.

On Saturday in Bristol, the Eagles (2-1) scored first in their 13-8 win over the 1-2 Commodores and never trailed. They led after one, 6-4, but the Commodores closed the gap at the half. The Eagles then dominated the third period to take an insurmountable 12-5 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Travis Bachand’s six goals led Mount Abe, while Forrest Wallace tallied three and Charlie Meyer added 2. Nick Turner Cobi Badger also scored, for Mount Abe, and goalie Patrick Brown made five saves.
Cody Hutchins led VUHS with five goals, and Hunter Casey, Tucker Babcock, and Tyler Crowningshield each added one. VUHS goalie Broc Clark stopped four shots in what the Eagle coaches described as a well-played game.   
Both teams dropped road games on Wednesday. Milton topped VUHS, 13-5, despite three goals from Babcock. Joe Krayewsky and Casey also found the net, and Clark stopped five shots.
At the same time, Rice topped the Eagles, 17-7. The Eagles started strong and led at the half, 7-6, but Rice took charge after the break. Bachand led Mount Abe with four goals, Meyer scored twice, and Lucas Richter added one. Brown was credited with nine saves.
TIGERS
On Friday, the Tigers’ early-season roll continued when they struck for the final five goals of the game to stun host South Burlington, 7-6.
Sam Usilton’s strike with 17 seconds left capped the MUHS rally, and Christian Higgins,Connor Quinn, Bobby Ritter andKeenan Bartlett also found the net for the 3-0 Tigers. Nathan Lalonde backstopped the win with 10 saves, while Mike Blauvelt made 12 saves for the Rebels.
OTTERS
On Friday, host Brattleboro (2-0) took a 16-2 win over the Otters despite another solid effort from OV goalie Elyas O’Classen.Collin Eugair andBrandon Hemple scored for OV.
