Bixby to host talk on fractured fairy tales
VERGENNES — Bixby Memorial Library in Vergennes will present “Exploring the Rabbit Hole of Fractured Fairy Tales” on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. Bixby Assistant Librarian Dianne Lawson will discuss how fairy tales became fractured, how they are defined, how they are passed down, and whether they are relevant today.
Lawson will look at how the Rocky and Bullwinkle television show from the early 1960s influenced the telling and reconstruction of fairy tales. She will also examine newer incarnations of the fractured fairy tale, such as those seen recently in the Little City Players’ show at the Vergennes Opera House and the Bristol Elementary School Players’ production of “Ever After — the Musical.”
Excerpted from a course in children’s literature at Purdue University, the talk will carry attendees into the world of fairy tale history through another rabbit hole. A behind-the-scenes peek at the Little City Players’ rehearsal will be shown on video.
For additional information on this and other programs in the Bixby Library’s Third Thursday series, contact the library at (802) 877-2211. All Third Thursday events are free and open to the public.
