Families race at Bread Loaf Nordic ski area

RIPTON — A crisp and sunny but windy day accompanied 40 skiers out of the mass start area and onto the Tormondsen Family Race Trail for the annual Bread Loaf Citizens’ Race at Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton on March 17. Participants ranged in ages from 6.75 (Greta Jennison) up to 70.
In the 4.6K race, the Overall Women’s Skate winner was Suzanne Calhoun in 20:38. The Overall Men’s Skate winner was Garrott Kuzzy in 18:17 — the top finisher for the day. In the Classical division, Renate Adamowicz finished her first-ever race in first place with a time of 32:38. On the men’s Classical, the overall winner was Bill McKibben with a finish time of 22:28.
Five intrepid youngsters braved the winds and circumnavigated the Lollipop Race in record time. They were awarded the ever-popular lollipop, a balloon and a Rikert bell as they crossed the finish line. Lollipop racers were Erin Geisler, Peter Arvold, Silas Gulley, Elsa Klein and Zoe Klein.
