VERGENNES — On a snowy March 15 evening, Vergennes police were helping Vermont State Police direct traffic around a rollover accident at the top of Woodman Hill when they arrested a Stockbridge woman for driving with a blood-alcohol content they alleged was more than three times the legal limit.
Police cited Michelle Rogers, 40, for driving under the influence of alcohol, alleging her BAC tested back at the station at 0.267 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. She was also cited for operating with a civilly suspended license and for operating without regard to hazardous conditions.
At about 9:30 p.m., police briefly stopped traffic entirely to allow a tow truck to do its job at the crash, which they said fortunately resulted in no serious injuries. Then they said they saw a southbound vehicle in Route 7’s northbound lane pass at least a half-mile of stopped traffic, and said it nearly hit a city police cruiser before they flagged it down.
Police took Rogers into protective custody and took her to the Act 1 detoxification facility in Burlington. They also took a male passenger to Act 1 to sober up, but he was refused admittance, and police took him to the Chittenden County Correctional Center.
Vergennes police also last week concluded an undercover investigation by citing Susan Curavoo, 46, of Vergennes for illegal sale of narcotics. Police identified the substances they alleged Curavoo was selling as prescription meds.
In other action between March 11 and 17, Vergennes police:
•  On March 11 checked out a report of activity in a Second Street home that a neighbor thought was vacant and discovered a relative of the owners there.
•  On March 11 cited Jason Bushey, 27, of Essex Junction for driving with a criminally suspended license and speeding following a West Main Street traffic stop.
•  On March 11 told kids and a parent to dismantle a lean-to and not to start campfires on a First Street property that was not theirs.
•  On March 11 began looking into a case of possibly inappropriate texting at Vergennes Union High School.
•  On March 11 responded to a report of a fire on land behind Northlands Job Corps and found hay bales and beer cans.
•  On March 12 once again dealt with a noise complaint from one of two squabbling neighbors at the Hillside Acres apartment complex. Police also met that day with the complex’s property manager at the manager’s request about tenant issues and suspicious activity there.
•  On March 12 attended a Vergennes Union Elementary School career day with the department canine.
•  On March 12 sent the department Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) to help VSP in New Haven.
•  On March 14 calmed an arguing couple on Hillside Drive.
•  On March 15 sent the department DRE to help VSP in Rutland.
•  On March 15 handled a minor two-car accident on Main Street.
•  On March 15 searched unsuccessfully for a juvenile on behalf of the Department of Children and Families.
•  On March 15 dealt with a complaint of kids allegedly shooting BB guns at other kids on Second Street. Police learned the guns were not functional, but told the kids and their parents that the guns should not be pointed at others.
•  On March 15 looked for a car allegedly being driven illegally, but could not find it.
•  On March 15 calmed a squabbling couple on South Water Street.
•  On March 16 cited Max LaPlanphe, 22, of New Providence, N.J., for possession of about 3.9 grams of marijuana and for speeding following a North Main Street traffic stop.
•  On March 17 helped VSP with a Panton DUI case.
•  On March 17 ticketed 10 cars left on city streets in violation of the city’s overnight wintertime parking ban.
•  On March 17 were told an iPhone had been stolen from a Northlands dorm room.
•  On March 17 went to the New Haven Road car wash to help a car reported to be trapped in a bay there, but it was gone when police arrived.
•  On March 17 stood by on First Street while a man retrieved his belongings from a woman’s home.
•  On March 17 took a report that a car had been stolen from Short Street, but soon got a call back that a friend of its owner had moved it.
