Middlebury Police Log: Local man cited for assault on an officer

CORRECTION:The Middlebury police log in the March 7 edition of the Independentincorrectly reported that a Middlebury Union High School teacher had found a marijuana pipe and unidentified pills on a student on Feb. 26. It was actually a Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center official who found the contraband.
MIDDLEURY — Middlebury police cited John Grundler, 40, of Middlebury for assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, following an incident at Porter Hospital on March 11. Police said Grundler allegedly kicked a deputy sheriff in the stomach. Grundler was lodged that evening at the Marble Valley Correctional Center for lack of bail.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Assisted a North Forty Lane resident with an unmanageable youth on March 4.
•  Responded to a report of loud music coming from a North Pleasant Street apartment on March 4.
•  Were informed of the theft of a cell phone from the Ilsley Library on Main Street on March 4.
•  Investigated a theft complaint in the Court Street area on March 5.
•  Investigated an alleged domestic disturbance at a North Pleasant Street residence on March 5. Police said the case has been forwarded to the Addison County State’s Attorney’s office for possible prosecution.
•  Responded to a report of a man attempting to cash in $200 in half-dollars at the Peoples United Bank branch at South Village Green on March 5. Police said the man left the bank with the coins when officials asked his name.
•  Served a no-trespass order on March 5 on a person not wanted on the Porter Medical Center campus on March 5.
•  Cited Allen Jennings, 27, of Middlebury for unlawful trespass and violation of the conditions of his release, following an incident at a North Pleasant Street apartment on March 6.
•  Responded to a report of an unconscious man on the floor of the bathroom of a North Pleasant Street apartment on March 6. Police said the man, who had consumed mouthwash containing alcohol, was taken to Porter Hospital.
•  Ticketed a man who tried to buy alcohol from a Court Street Extension business using a fake identification card on March 7.
•  Responded to a noise complaint at a South Pleasant Street apartment on March 7.
•  Investigated a report of a man threatening staff at Porter Hospital on March 7.
•  Cited Renee Nicholson, 28, of Ferrisburgh for driving with a suspended license (criminal offense) on Burnham Drive on March 7.
•  Served a no-trespass order on March 7 on a person who was not wanted at a Court Street residence.
•  Investigated a truancy complaint at Middlebury Union High School on March 7.
•  Cited Allen Jennings, 27, of Middlebury for violating the conditions of his release, following an alleged incident on March 8.
•  Responded to a theft complaint in the Court Street Extension neighborhood on March 8.
•  Handed over to Middlebury College Public Safety a drunken student who was having difficulty walking on College Street on March 8.
•  Warned two men who allegedly tried to pick a fight with two other men on College Street on March 8.
•  Cited Riley Billings, 21, and Jason Marshall, 20, both of East Middlebury, for furnishing alcohol to minors, following an investigation of a reported underage drinking party at an East Middlebury residence on March 9. At the same time, police also cited Alexander Gendreau, 19, of Vergennes, for possession of marijuana and issued Court Diversion paperwork to two juveniles.
•  Were informed of a theft from a vehicle parked off Exchange Street on March 9.
•  Received a report of someone egging an East Munger Street residence on March 9.
•  Cited Joshua Pushee, 18, of Middlebury for possession of marijuana, following an investigation off Court Street Extension on March 9.
•  Warned a man for violating the town’s open container ordinance in Court Square on March 9.
•  Launched an investigation of the alleged assault of a man in the Seminary Street Extension area on March 9. Police said the man was treated for his injuries at Porter Hospital.
•  Warned a visiting college skier who was seen urinating in the downtown Middlebury roundabout on March 9.
•  Directed a mentally distraught man to the Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) on March 10.
•  Got CSAC assistance for a local man who was feeling suicidal on March 10.
•  Were informed of a theft from a College Street residence on March 10.
•  Issued Court Diversion paperwork to an underage youth found drunk and sleeping in a vehicle on Hillcrest Road on March 10. Police said the youth was in town for the ski championships at Middlebury College.
•  Investigated a report of a man allegedly seen trying to pick the lock of a door at a Monroe Street residence on March 10.
•  Responded to a disorderly conduct complaint at Two Brothers Tavern on Main Street on March 10.
•  Gave Court Diversion paperwork to an underage youth who was found to be intoxicated and walking down the middle of Adirondack View on March 10.
•  Investigated a disorderly conduct complaint in the Main Street area on March 10.
•  Received a report of someone vandalizing the door of a North Pleasant Street residence on March 11.
