Mount Abe cheerleaders third at state champinships

VERGENNES — The Mount Abraham Union High School cheerleading team earned a third-place finish in Division II at Saturday’s Vermont championship competition, which was held at Vergennes Union High School.
The Eagles scored 88 points to finish behind Mount Anthony (108) and Mount St. Joseph (98) in the seven-team D-II field. As a result of their third-place effort, the Mount Abe cheer squad earned an invitation to the All-New England competition as a D-III all-girl squad.
Teams from Vergennes and Otter Valley and Vergennes competed in D-I. VUHS, the Lake Division championship squad, took fourth with 128 points behind Rutland (181), BFA-St. Albans (169) and Essex (159), while the OV cheer squad finished eighth with 96 points.
