Editorial: Vote, it’ll make you happy

In today’s Addison Independent, we feature six-plus pages of town-by-town election coverage that previews the highlights of Town Meeting Day for each of the county’s 23 towns. We also cover and report the most important budgets — town and school districts — and the most prominent elections on the front page and main news pages in section A.
Numerous letters have been coming in and published over the past several weeks (most well-considered, articulate and attributable to local residents), and that continues in today’s issue over three more pages. All-in-all, there are a dozen or more pages of pre-election news in today’s paper. Take the time to read those stories that pertain to you and your community; study the issues from this material, as well as by referring to the town reports sent out by each community. Ask questions, if you have them, and find out the answers — at Town Meeting if not before.
Those are the initial steps that are so essential to upholding our democratic values. Then attend Town Meeting, Tuesday, March 5, if at all possible, and vote. Afterward, you’ll be glad you made the effort.
