VERGENNES — Drug problems continued to keep Vergennes police busy between Jan. 14 and 20. On Jan. 15, police were notified of an untimely death of a 41-year-old resident of Walker Avenue that they said could be drug-related.
Police said they received a call from the assistant medical examiner at Porter Hospital, where Vergennes Area Rescue Squad personnel had taken the woman, asking police to investigate her untimely death.
Police said an autopsy performed by the state’s chief medical examiner would ultimately determine the cause of death.
Police also last week cited two women on drug charges. Kimber Mills, 24, of Vergennes was cited for sale of a regulated drug, which police said was a prescription pain medication.
Police cited Jolene A. Ladd, 39, of Leicester for possession of heroin. Police said that citation is related to their major December heroin bust on Fern Lake Road in Leicester.
In other action between Jan. 14 and 20, Vergennes police:
•  On Jan. 14 responded to a complaint from one Main Street apartment resident that a neighbor was harassing her, and determined that she was also harassing her neighbor. Police told both to stop.
•  On Jan. 15 were told by a South Maple Street resident that a box full of items had been stolen after it had been briefly left on the sidewalk.
•  On Jan. 15 calmed two parties quarreling about a child custody issue at a New Haven Road residence and made sure the child was properly transferred.
•  On Jan. 15 dealt with a minor car accident on Hillside Drive.
•  On Jan. 15 looked into an alleged assault on the Northlands Job Corps campus and determined the two female students involved had been fighting each other, and filed no charges.
•  On Jan. 15 checked out a report of a suspicious vehicle in a North Street driveway; it was gone when police arrived.
•  On Jan. 16 looked into the theft of $17 and a ring from a West Main Street home. Police said there has been suspicious activity in that area recently and advised residents to be careful.
•  On Jan. 16 went to Vergennes Union Elementary School and stood by while staff calmed a student experiencing behavioral problems.
•  On Jan. 16 and 17 accepted three tips about illegal drug activity and related criminal activity in the Vergennes area.
•  On Jan. 17 checked a report of an assault on King Street and discovered two teens involved in a pushing and shoving match; police calmed the two boys and filed no charges.
•  On Jan. 17 cited Yakov Saversky, 18, of Vergennes for retail theft. Police allege he shoplifted laxatives from Kinney Drug Store.
•  On Jan. 18 aided Vermont State Police by responding to a Route 7 one-car accident in Ferrisburgh with injuries; city police directed traffic and identified witnesses for VSP.
•  On Jan. 18 responded along with VSP to a burglary on Lake Street in Panton.
•  On Jan. 18 and 19 issued tickets to three cars in violation of the city’s winter ban on overnight parking on city streets.
•  On Jan. 19 delivered a message to a Ferrisburgh resident on behalf of New York State Police.
•  On Jan. 19 cited Joseph Robar, 25, for violating the conditions of a relief-from-abuse order.
•  On Jan. 20 responded to a minor two-car accident on Main Street.
