Special holiday religious services
ADDISON COUNTY/BRANDON — Several Addison County and Brandon churches have set their schedule for special Christmas events and services.
BRANDON
Brandon Baptist Church will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
St. Mary’s Parish will hold a penance service on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. There will be a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. There will also be a Christmas Day Mass, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
St. Thomas & Grace Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at Grace Church in Forest Dale Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. with the solemnity of full candelabra and the innocence of children at play.
The Brandon Congregational Church will hold its annual candlelight service on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
BRIDPORT
The Bridport Congregational Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. There will be a Christmas celebration service Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 11 a.m.
BRISTOL
The First Baptist Church of Bristol will hold its Christmas Eve family candle-lighting service with carols and readings on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
Bristol Christian Fellowship will hold a worship service on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. with community caroling later that day at 5 p.m. Refreshments follow at the fellowship building on Rockydale Road.
St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church will host an ecumenical choir singing carols and hymns on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m., and a penance service on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. There will be Christmas Eve Masses on Monday, Dec. 14, at 5:15 and 9 p.m.; and a Christmas Day Mass on Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 9 a.m.
CHARLOTTE
The Charlotte Congregational Church will hold a “blue” Christmas and healing prayer service on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m., for those who might be feeling “blue” this holiday season. The children’s Christmas pageant will be held during morning worship on Sunday, Dec. 23. On Monday, Dec. 24, at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Christmas Eve service of story and carols for the whole family, accompanied by the Junior Choir and bells. A traditional candlelight service with the Adult Choir will follow at 8 p.m.
CORNWALL
The First Congregational Church of Cornwall’s Dec. 23 worship will be led by the children of the church, followed by a carol sing led by organist and choir director Dr. Burt Dudding. A Christmas Eve candlelight service of lessons and carols will be held Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. And Dec. 30 will be a mission-worship service, consisting of mission opportunities in and out of the church building; gather at the church at 9:30 a.m.
EAST MIDDLEBURY
The East Middlebury United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve service of lessons and carols On Monday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m.
FERRISBURGH
Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church (the “Little Brown Church”) presents Certain Sounds with a Christmas cantata, “Silent Night, Holy Night,” on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. There will be a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
The Crossroads Chapel will hold its annual Christmas pageant, “O Come Emmanuel,” and a Christmas carol sing-along on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. Refreshments follow.
FOREST DALE
St. Thomas & Grace Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. at Grace Church with the solemnity of full candelabra and the innocence of children at play.
GOSHEN
The Goshen Community Church will hold a Christmas Even candlelight service with the Rev. Richard A. White on Monday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m.
HANCOCK/GRANVILLE
The Community Church of Hancock and Granville will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m.
LEICESTER
The LifeBridge Christian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m., at the Leicester Church of the Nazarene.
St. Agnes’ Parish will hold a Christmas Eve service Monday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m.
LINCOLN
The United Church of Lincoln will hold three Christmas Eve services on Monday, Dec. 24: at 6:30 p.m., a family-focused service for younger children with impromptu pageant; at 8:30 p.m., a traditional with the message “A Story of a Shepherd” Luke 2:8-20; and at 11:30 p.m. a midnight service of carols and candlelight and Communion.
MIDDLEBURY
The Memorial Baptist Church will hold a “blue” Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 5 p.m. for those who find rejoicing difficult.
The Middlebury United Methodist Church will hold the Advent study “Christmas Is Not Your Birthday” on Wednesdays, Dec. 19 and Jan. 2, at 6 p.m. There will be a Christmas benefit concert for Charter House on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. And there will be a Christmas Eve service of lessons and carols Monday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
The Congregational Church of Middlebury will hold its annual Messiah Sing on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. On Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, a family-style service with Christmas tableau will begin at 4 p.m.; a 7:30 p.m. service will include the lighting of candles. There will be a Christmas worship service Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will hold a gentle Christmas service on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. The Christmas Eve family service, Monday, Dec. 24, will be at 4 p.m. There will be Christmas music at 9:30 p.m. followed by a festive Christmas Communion at 10 p.m. The Christmas Day Service will take place Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
The Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society will hold two Christmas Eve services on Monday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., titled “If I Could Visit Bethlehem,” by the Rev. Barnaby Feder. The early service is geared to families; childcare will be provided. The late service includes a performance of “Christmas in the Trenches,” a moving tale of peace between opposing troops on Christmas Eve during World War II. Both services will end with the traditional lighting of the candles and singing of “Silent Night.”
NEW HAVEN
New Haven Congregational Church invites all to their Christmas Eve candlelight service Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
ORWELL
The First Congregational Church of Orwell will conduct a Christmas Eve service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7:30 p.m.
SOUTH STARKSBORO
The Jerusalem Gathering will have a service of candles, carols and communion on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
VERGENNES
The Assembly of God Christian Center is having a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.
St. Peter’s Church will hold a penance service on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. There will be a Christmas Eve Mass on Monday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. and a Christmas Day Mass on Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
Vergennes United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
Victory Baptist Church will have a choir musical presentation, “2,000 Decembers Ago,” on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. There will be a Christmas Eve candlelight service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
The Vergennes Congregational Church will hold two Christmas Eve services on Monday, Dec. 24. The 4:30 p.m. service will be a family service geared toward children. The 7 p.m. service will be a traditional service of readings and carols.
WEST ADDISON
The West Addison United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 6:30 p.m. There will be no morning service that day.
WEYBRIDGE
Weybridge Congregational Church on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. will hold its annual live Nativity behind the church while carols are sung. The handbell choir will present its Christmas concert Monday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. A Christmas Eve carol and candlelight service will be held Monday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m., with a special offering for Shareheat and refreshments and fellowship after. There will be a year-end service of singing, praying and sharing on Sunday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m.
