OV girls’ basketball tops Poultney; Slaters to visit next

BRANDON — The Otter Valley Union High School girls’ basketball team on Tuesday coasted in its season opener, topping visiting Poultney, 58-20.
In the process, the Otters made a winner of new head coach Steve Keith in his debut; Keith is also the school’s first-year activities director.
Keith said he had the Otters press Poultney out of the gate and they took a big early lead on their way to the big win.
Jess Frazier led OV’s balanced scoring with 16 points, Michelle Maseroni added 10, and Amy Jones and Olivia Bloomer contributed eight points apiece.
Keith also credited guard Brittany Bushey and Taylor Aines for strong play.
The Otters are expecting stiffer competition in their next game: Marble Valley League rival Fair Haven, which defeated host Middlebury handily on Tuesday, visits the House of Noise on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
