Vergennes Police Log: Ferrisburgh man jailed for threatening pets, violating abuse order

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Nov. 20 arrested a Ferrisburgh man after he allegedly threatened both a woman and her pets when she indicated she wished to end a relationship, and then jailed him again the next day after he violated his conditions of release.
Police said the technical first charge they filed against Scott Denny, 51, was extortion, because Denny allegedly said he would kill the woman’s dog and bird if she did not comply with his wishes. The woman came into the police station and also alleged that Denny had repeatedly threatened her in the past. Police lodged Denny at the Chittenden County Correctional Center on Nov. 20.
After his release from jail, on Nov. 21 Vergennes police returned Denny to the correctional center after he violated the terms of a relief-from-abuse order by making contact with the alleged victim.
Vergennes police would also like to remind Vergennes residents and city residents of the community’s winter ban on overnight parking on city streets. The ban begins on this Saturday, Dec. 1, and covers the hours between 2 and 6:30 a.m. Cars parked on the streets during those hours are subject to fines, towing or both, police said.
