Vermont State Police Log: ‘Haunted house’ signs stolen
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Friday, Oct. 12, received a complaint from Eric Huestis, 35, of Ferrisburgh, that someone had stolen all of the haunted house signs for their haunted house.
The thefts of the signs from Route 7 in Ferrisburgh apparently had taken place sometime between 9 p.m. the previous night and 10:30 a.m. that morning.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the VSP at 802-388-4919. Information can also be submitted anonymously online at www.vtips.info or text “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.
In other recent activity VSP:
• On Oct. 8 at approximately noon responded to a restraining order complaint in Bridport. Police cited Buck Mitchell, 20, of Bristol for violation of an abuse prevention order.
• On Oct. 8 received a report from a Mountainview Lane man in Leicester that his outboard motor had been stolen off his boat sometime between Sept. 5 and Oct. 7. The motor was described as an 8hp Mercury, Model number 1008211VD. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact VSP.
• On Oct. 8 received a complaint that a Salisbury resident had received an email that the recipient believed was a scam; it made threats if money was not sent. Further investigation confirmed this was a known scam. The Vermont State Police warn the public to be wary of Internet and/or telephone scams, and encourage people to contact their local authorities if they believe they have received a scam.
• On Oct. 9 received a report that someone had entered a Sand Road home in Ferrisburgh and stole several items from the residence. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact , call the State Police Haven at 802-388-4919.
• On Oct. 9 at 8:35 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle driven by Alexandra Parks, 24, of Bristol on Plank Road in New Haven for speeding. Police cited Parks for possession of marijuana and driving under the influence of drugs.
• On Oct. 10 at approximately 2 p.m. received a report that a game camera was stolen in Addison. Anyone with information is asked to call VSP.
• While on routine patrol on Oct. 10 came across Kevin Ring, 54, of Monkton in the fishing access on Long Point Road in Ferrisburgh. The trooper said Ring was seen smoking marijuana and had an additional misdemeanor amount of marijuana in his possession. The trooper cited Ring for possession of marijuana.
• On Oct. 11 at approximately 9 a.m. responded to an accident on Route 22A in Bridport. Police said their investigation showed that Roman Povorosnyk, 38, of Troy, N.Y., was driving a tractor-trailer when a book fell from an overhead compartment and distracted him. This resulted in him not seeing a Ford Taurus driven by 47-year-old Sharon Koller of Bridport, and the tractor-trailer struck the Taurus. No injuries were reported.
• On Oct. 11 at around 2 p.m. responded to a one-car rollover accident on Route 116 in Bristol just north of the Middlebury line. Police said Garrison Leduc, 21, of Whiting was driving northbound when his vehicle went off the west side of the road, hit a tree, and rolled over. Leduc told police he didn’t remember the crash, and said he probably fell asleep. The trooper said he didn’t see evidence of alcohol or drug impairment. Leduc was treated at Porter Hospital for minor injuries.
• On Oct. 12 at 9:06 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle driven by Lyn Billings, 48, of Ferrisburgh for speeding on Greenbush Road in Ferrisburgh. Troopers cited Billings for driving under the influence of alcohol.
• On Oct. 13 at approximately 11:30 p.m. checked out a report of an under-age drinking party at the Ferrisburgh town beach. Upon arrival police saw a small, unattended fire. Police talked with two individuals who arrived on the scene. Troopers cited the driver, identified as Chad Laundry, 22, of Peru, N.Y., for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana; his passenger was released with a civil ticker for underage drinking.
• On Oct. 13 received a report that someone had broken into the vehicle of a Burlington resident parked on Mountain Road in Addison between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. that day and stolen her purse. Anyone with information regarding this break-in or who may have seen suspicious activity in this area is asked to contact VSP.
• On Oct. 14 began investigating a report from Sanford Road in Orwell that sometime between Oct. 7 and 11 someone had put a foreign substance into the fuel tank of an Orwell man’s truck, rendered the vehicle inoperable. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP.
• On Oct. 14 received a report of the theft of an $800 laptop computer from a Vaughn Court home in Monkton sometime between 9 a.m. on Oct. 12 and 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 14. Police said there was not any sign of forced entry. The theft occurred between October 12th and October 14th, 2012. The laptop is valued at approximately $800.
• On Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. responded to a one-car accident at the intersection of Big Hollow Road and White Tail Lane in Starksboro. Police reported that Bridgette Sheppard, 27, of Starksboro was driving a 2007 Toyota SUV eastbound on Big Hollow Road and nodded off while driving. She drove off Big Hollow Road at the intersection to White Tail Lane and collided with a utility pole, breaking it in half. Sheppard and the two infants in the vehicle were uninjured. The SUV sustained minor dents and scrapes to the entire vehicle.
• On Oct. 14 at 8:43 p.m. stopped a vehicle driven by John C. Lawrence, 44, of Bristol on Plank Road in New Haven. Police cited Lawrence for possession of marijuana and violation of conditions of release.
• On Oct. 14 at around 9:20 p.m. stopped a truck operating in a careless and negligent manner on Basin Harbor Road in Ferrisburgh. Police cited the driver, Thomas Longtin, 55, of Feeding Hills, Mass., for driving under the influence and for careless and negligent driving.
• On Oct. 15 were notified that a resident of Horton Road in Orwell left their residence for a short time during day on Monday, and while gone an unknown person broke into the house and stole money and jewelry. The investigation into this incidence is continuing. Anyone who observed any suspicious vehicles on or near Horton Road in Orwell at the time of the incident is asked to contact VSP.
