Eagle field hockey tips Rebels, 1-0

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team posted one of the program’s biggest wins in recent years on Tuesday, knocking off previously undefeated South Burlington, 1-0, in Bristol.
The result left the two teams tied for first place in the Metro Conference at 5-1-1 at the regular season’s midpoint. The win also extended the Eagles’ unbeaten streak to six games and moved them closer to clinching the program’s first winning season since 2007, when their five-year Division II championship streak was snapped.
The Eagles got the only goal they needed in the game’s first two minutes, when Sarah Heffernan scored with an assist from Sara Cousino.
Senior goalie Lizzie Huizenga posted seven saves for her fourth shutout of the season, while the Rebels’ Julia Hudson was credited with five stops.
Next up for the Eagles is a 3:45 p.m. home game on Friday vs. Essex (5-2), the only team to defeat Mount Abe this season: The Hornets claimed a 3-1 home win in the season opener for both teams back on Sept. 5.
