OV football rolls over Springfield
SPRINGFIELD — The Otter Valley Union High School football team on Aug. 31 rolled to a 35-6 halftime lead on the way to a 48-6 win over host Springfield in both teams’ Division II opener.
The Otters took the lead when sophomore QB John Winslow hit senior Brett Patterson with a 43-yard touchdown pass.
A bad snap on a punt gave the Otters two more points, and OV took the kick and marched to score on a 5-yard run by Cody Gutzman.
Winslow and Patterson connected on a 33-yard touchdown, and then Winslow hit brother Mike Winslow for a 36-yard score to make it 27-0.
Springfield got on the board with a 74-yard run from Sean Jeffers, but Patterson countered with an 80-yard kickoff return to create the halftime score and ensure many substitutes would play in the second half.
OV coach Jim Hill said in the preseason that Springfield is a young team, and that he expects bigger, more physical teams to pose a tougher test. He included Lyndon, which visits Brandon at 1 p.m. on Saturday for another league contest, in that category. The Vikings opened with a 14-0 win at Milton this past Saturday.
