BRISTOL — The Bristol Police Department dealt with a variety of calls between Aug. 7 and 15. The most noteworthy was on Aug. 7, when Bristol officers assisted Vermont State Police and other agencies in arresting Katherine Heffernan, 27, of Bristol and charging her with possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it.
Police said Heffernan had more than 60 bags of heroin and more than $9,000 in cash on her when arrested (more on this story can be found in the Aug. 13 edition of the Independent).
In other activity over that period, Bristol police:
•  On Aug. 7 cited Richard Lattrell for reckless endangerment, providing false information to an officer and attempting to elude an officer. According to Bristol police, Lattrell drove his car at an officer when the officer approached him. He then fled the scene, a pursuit ensued and he was arrested in Lincoln.
•  On Aug. 7 received a report that that a Bristol woman had violated her conditions of release. Earlier police had ordered Brenda Shores, 44, of Bristol not to go near or contact an ex-boyfriend, and on Aug. 7 police were told that she had been on the man’s property. Several days later police located Shores and cited her for three counts of violating her conditions of release.
•  On Aug. 7 received a complaint from the owner of Lathrop Band Mill Inc. that someone was camping on the property. When the police arrived, it looked as though the individual had been camping there for several days or weeks, according to Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs. The camper’s property was seized and later released to him with orders not to go back to that property.
Then, on Aug. 15, at 11:40 a.m., police responded to the old coffin factory by the Lathrop Mill, which is on town property, to see if someone was camping there. An officer found the same man there, and he was instructed to get his belongings off town property by 2 p.m. or he would be charged with trespassing.
“We suggested that he go to one of the local campgrounds or state parks,” Gibbs said.
•  On Aug. 8 the Bristol police found a Samsung flip phone and returned it to its owner.
•  On Aug. 8 responded to an alarm at A. Johnson Co. lumber mill. Apparently, an employee had accidentally set it off.
•  On Aug. 8 received a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot by the Hewitt Road Bridge. Gibbs said police found five people, but they weren’t doing anything illegal so police took no action.
•  On Aug. 9 a Bristol man reported that a male subject operating a Toyota truck threatened his girlfriend in front of Rite Aid. That issue is still under investigation, said Gibbs.
 • On Aug. 10 found a cell phone on North Street. All contacts and messages had been removed. The police identified the owner by searching the police department’s database with the phone number of the cell and it was returned to the user.
•  On Aug. 12 arrested Alexandria Jimmo, 22, of Lincoln for possession of heroin after the police received a report of a drug deal in progress behind the Lawrence Memorial Library. The drug dealer was not on scene at the time, but police have a suspect. Jimmo was not lodged.
•  On the evening of Aug. 12 received a report of flashlights in an unoccupied home on Pine Street. According to the police report, the building was secure and nothing was amiss.
•  On Aug. 13 received a report of vandalism at Mount Abraham Union High School. Somebody had climbed on the roof and spray-painted epithets in white paint. There are no suspects. The damage was estimated at about $100, and the vandalism was not in plain sight.
•  On Aug. 14 checked the welfare of a South Street woman. Her family couldn’t get through to her. Gibbs said police found her, “sitting on her picnic table outside her apartment. She was fine.”
•  On Aug. 14 assisted state police at about 10:30 a.m. with an alleged fight in progress on Stoney Hill Road. When the police officers arrived, no one was there. Police believe that the call may have been used to divert them to another location, and they are investigating this matter.
•  On Aug. 14 issued trespass notices to two subjects on the town green who were involved in a dispute over the water fountain. One of the women let her kids play by the fountain and the other woman didn’t like it, Gibbs said. They exchanged profanities and both are being issued trespass notices to stay off the park for a year.
“They both could have been charged with disorderly conduct, so I don’t think it’s unwarranted,” Gibbs said. 
•  On Aug. 15 at about 2 a.m. responded to a report of an intoxicated female at a Main Street apartment. She was intoxicated, but she was in her home, and she was not a danger to society, Gibbs said. No action was taken.
•  On Aug. 15 received two reports from residents that their vehicles had been entered the night before. One vehicle was on Mountain Street and the other was on Maple Street. The cars were left unlocked and nothing was found to be missing, although someone had clearly rummaged through the cars.
