VERGENNES — City police last week arrested two men relating to drug trafficking in the area.
Police arrested Mark Kennedy, 25, on Thursday, Aug. 9, for distribution of heroin and possession of illegal narcotics outside of Small City Market. Chief George Merkel said Kennedy was arrested in late July for marijuana and paraphernalia possession.
Additionally, police arrested David Spencer, 31, on Icehouse Court on the same day. Spencer was caught driving with a suspended license and was cited for possession of heroin.
More details on the two arrests will be available once information is released from the state police’s current investigation, Merkel said.
In other action between Aug. 6 and 13, Vergennes police:
•  On Aug. 6 investigated a dispute between two teenagers on Sunset Drive. The argument was allegedly between a current and former boyfriend of a Vergennes resident. The new boyfriend threatened to damage the former’s bicycle. When police contacted him, the old boyfriend said he was kidding.
•  On Aug. 6 conducted a welfare check on South Maple Street, where a woman was having emotional trouble in her ongoing divorce. The woman said everything was fine. Police recommended that she find help through counseling.
•  On Aug. 6 responded to a burglar alarm at Vergennes Union High School. Five males were cited for unlawful trespassing and mischief. All are due in juvenile court.
•  On Aug. 7 interviewed a man selling televisions and entertainment systems on South Maple Street. The man had a New York registration. Police found that his receipts were legitimate.
•  On Aug. 7 responded to a vehicle lockout on Monkton road. The individual was able to gain access into their car.
•  On Aug. 7 assisted Bristol police and the U.S. Secret Service in locating a male possessing $800 in counterfeit money.
•  On Aug. 7 assisted the Vermont Drug Task Force with the K-9 unit at a Bristol residence. At a traffic stop on Lincoln Road in Bristol, police found narcotics in the car. A subsequent search of the owner’s residence found currency and drugs. An additional vehicle was seized. VSP made arrests in the case.
•  On Aug. 7 assisted Bristol police in attempting to locate a vehicle that nearly ran an officer over.
•  On Aug. 7 responded to a noise complaint in a North Green Street apartment. Upon arriving at the residence, no one answered the front door. Police entered the apartment and found that a vacuum cleaner had been left running.
•  On Aug. 8 investigated a verbal altercation in a parking lot near Champlain Farms. The two individuals were arguing over money, and police later discovered that the argument was drug related. The investigation continues.
•  On Aug. 9 disposed of drugs given to the department for destruction.
•  On Aug. 9 assisted state police in searching for a vehicle on Dunham Drive.
•  On Aug. 10 responded to a suspicious activity report from the Small City Market parking lot at 6 a.m. Two individuals from a car with Ontario, Canada, license plates were dancing in the street outside of the market. The individuals had left by the time police arrived at the scene.
•  On Aug. 10 assisted state police at an accident on Sand Road.
•  On Aug. 11 responded to the Northland Job Corps. Police cited a 15-year-old female for illegal consumption of alcohol.
•  On Aug. 11 investigated a noise disturbance on North Street. A couple was found to be arguing at a residence. The female had kicked the male out of her house. The male was outside the home, yelling on his cell phone and kicking his car.
•  On Aug. 11 responded to the Northland Job Corps and issued another citation for illegal consumption of alcohol.
•  On Aug. 12 responded to a report of a rabid cat on Second Street. Police were unable to locate the animal.
•  On Aug. 12 assisted state police in securing an out-of-control juvenile on Millbrook Road.
•  On Aug. 12 responded to a burglary on Hillside Drive. The investigation is pending.
•  On Aug. 12 responded to a possible overdose on Green Street. A woman was found not to have overdosed, but rather overindulged in alcohol. Police transported the woman to her mother’s house for the night.
