Middlebury warned about potential scam

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury authorities on Friday were put on alert about a woman going door-to-door claiming to be raising money on behalf of the Vermont Electric Power Co. (VELCO) for the Share Heat program that provides fuel assistance for Vermonters. Steve Costello, a spokesman for Green Mountain Power, said the state utilities do not raise Share Heat money through door-to-door campaigns are urging residents to not donate in this manner. Anyone in Middlebury receiving a visit of this nature should call police at 388-3191.
