Area track teams vie in Middlebury meet

MIDDLEBURY — Mount Mansfield Union High School’s boys’ and girls’ track teams took first place at a Tuesday meet hosted by Middlebury, while Mount Abraham’s teams took second.
The Cougar boys’ team finished with 130 points, and the girls with 112. The Eagle girls’ team tallied 64.5 points, and the boys’ team earned 60 points. Both MUHS teams finished in third. The girls’ team ended with 57.5 points, and the boys earned 53. The VUHS boys’ and girls’ teams’ took fourth, with respective scores of 16 and 13 points.
The top performers for the Eagle girls’ team were Brooke Lossman and Kensey Hanson. Lossman came in first in the pole vault, long jump, and discus, and finished second in the javelin. Hanson placed first in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200 meter.
Emily Byers was Middlebury’s top finisher. She won the triple jump and came in second in the 200-meter dash and the long jump.
Mount Abe’s top boys’ performers were Ian Bachand, Asa Learmonth and Henry Koenig. Bachand placed first in both the shot put and discus, Learmonth finished first at 200 meters and second in the 400, while Koenig won the triple jump and took third in the high jump.
Middlebury’s best performers on the boys’ team were Max Moulton and Neil Guertin. Moulton won both the 800 and the 3000, while Guertin placed first at 1500 meters and second in the 3000.
Samara Sausville took first at 400 meters for the VUHS girls.
The teams resumed action this past Saturday at Essex.
