VERGENNES — Vergennes police last month cited a New Haven resident for possession of heroin, and last week in a separate incident issued her three tickets after a traffic stop.
The more serious charge police filed against Stephanie Williams, 20, came on March 18 after a clerk at the Main Street Champlain Farms called police and reported two women were taking a suspicious amount of time in the store’s rest room.
Police discovered the two women were intoxicated and determined they were probably also under the influence of drugs. They obtained permission to search their vehicle and found a purse with three small bags of heroin, which police said Williams told them belonged to her. Police then cited her into court.
Police said they did not immediately make the citation public because of an ongoing investigation, and that they expected to issue additional citations this week.
Then on March 30 police found two cars in Falls Park off Mechanic Street, and the cars drove off immediately as police arrived. Police determined one set of plates did not match the car to which they were attached, and pulled the car over. They then issued tickets to Williams, who was the driver, for plates not assigned and driving without a registration or insurance.
In other incidents between March 26 and April 1, Vergennes police:
•  On March 26 took a truant student to Vergennes Union High School.
•  On March 26 dealt with a complaint from a Main Street apartment resident that other residents were filing false noise complaints against her and acting in an intimidating manner toward her, including carrying a pistol in her presence.
•  On March 26 were told a resident was nearly hit by a pickup that failed to stop at a School Street stop sign.
•  On March 27 cited Ashley Jackson, 26, of Middlebury for illegal possession of prescription drugs and driving with an expired license, actions taken after receiving a report of a car being operated erratically on Monkton Road.
•  On March 28 dealt with a dog running loose on Main Street.
•  On March 28 accepted a report of a Sand Road, Ferrisburgh, home being burglarized and notified its out-of-state owners, actions taken on behalf of Vermont State Police.
•  On March 28 handled a minor two-car accident on Main Street.
•  On March 28 went to help VSP at a Route 7 traffic stop in Ferrisburgh and caught a passenger who had fled on foot, and then turned him over to VSP. Vergennes police said the man who fled was wanted on a warrant.
•  On March 28 checked a report of a break-in at a Comfort Hill home, but learned that a woman’s husband had forgotten to close a door.
•  On March 28 dealt with a noise complaint at a Main Street apartment building; police said kids were skateboarding indoors and complied when told to stop.
•  On March 29 went to the City Limits bar to remove a drunken patron and took him to the Chittenden County Correctional Center to sober up. While at the bar, police also found Justin Moulton, 30, who was wanted on an outstanding Addison County warrant for failure to appear in court to answer to a charge of driving with a suspended license; Moulton was lodged at the Addison County Sheriff’s Department in Middlebury.
•  On March 29 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at calls on School Street and Armory Lane.
•  On March 29 helped VSP at a New Haven standoff with an armed man following a domestic dispute.
•  On March 30 checked out a New Haven Road business after finding its door open after hours and found no problem.
•  On March 30 looked into a report that a truck had driven over and damaged a water line on Cataract Street.
•  On March 30 checked out a complaint of youths on Comfort Hill property; they were gone on arrival.
•  On March 31 backed up VSP on a Route 7 traffic stop.
•  On March 31 helped VARS on MacDonough Drive.
•  On March 31 accepted a report that pain medication had been stolen from a Hillside Drive apartment.
•  On March 31 cited Rasaad McDowell, 31, of Elmwood, N.J., for domestic assault at a Hillside Drive apartment. Police allege McDowell grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and threw her to the ground and then kicked her in the back. He was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $20,000 bail.
•  On April 1 helped a motorist whose car was stuck in a bay at the New Haven Road car wash.
•  On April 1 dealt with a noise complaint at a Main Street apartment building.
