MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated an alleged strong-arm robbery at the Blue Spruce Motel on Route 7 South on Friday, March 30. Police said three men entered the room of a lodger of the motel and demanded money. Police said the man gave the suspects more than $100 in cash.
Police have referred the case to Addison County State’s Attorney David Fenster.
In other action last week. Middlebury police:
•  Were informed that a car was struck while parked on Hillcrest Road on March 26.
•  Received a report of someone passing a bad check of $79.50 to a local business on March 26.
•  Cited a Jonesville man for driving with a suspended license on Court Street on March 26.
•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Lower Plains Road residence on March 27.
•  Received a report about an argument between a woman and her daughter on Middlebury Union High School grounds on March 28.
•  Arrested Charles E. Whittemore, 37, of Middlebury on an outstanding warrant, following an incident on Washington Street on March 28. Police said Whittemore was released to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department.
•  Advised a woman to stop the “inappropriate behavior” she was exhibiting in front of McDonald’s Restaurant on Route 7 on March 29. Police said the woman had asked the restaurant for free food and went outside to flag customers as they drove by.
•  Responded, with area fire officials, to a reported arson fire at Middlebury College’s Milliken Hall on College Street on March 29.
•  Investigated a burglary at a Case Street residence on March 29. Police said someone kicked in the front door to get in and steal a 26-inch flat-screen Sony TV, valued at $300; an xBox 360 video gaming system valued at $500 along with four games and an iPod MP3 player.
•  Heard from a man who had set his wallet on his car roof and forgot about it as he drove away along Main Street on March 29.
•  Responded to a report of barking dogs in the Juniper Lane neighborhood on March 29.
•  Investigated the reported theft of two paintings from Edgewater Gallery on Mill Street on March 20. Store officials said the stolen paintings included a still-life and a landscape valued at a combined total of $650. Gallery officials suspect the paintings were lifted from the gallery and there were no signs of a break-in.
•  Ticketed two MUHS students for being minors in possession of tobacco on school grounds on March 30.
•  Responded to a dispute over the repossession of a car at a Halladay Road residence on March 30. Police said the repo agent had hooked up the car to tow it away and a relative of the owner had blocked the driveway.
•  Assisted a local resident who had received an obscene phone call on March 31.
•  Issued court diversion paperwork to two underage men who had been drinking alcohol in the Cedar Court area on April 1.
•  Assisted a Middlebury College student who was victimized by an apparent April Fool’s joke on April 1. The woman told police she had received a call from a female asking her to meet up with her on April 2 at 4 p.m. in front of the College’s Battell Building. The caller also told her she had “no choice but to have the meeting as she would want” what (the caller) had in her coat. Police traced the call to a number that had been disconnected.
The woman later told police that evening the call was an April Fool’s joke from one of her friends.
