Vergennes Police Log: Man arrested after violating conditions

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on March 13 arrested New Haven Road resident Russell Hulst, 51, for violating the conditions of his release on earlier domestic assault charges.
Police said they spotted Hulst in his truck on Main Street making contact with the victim of the assault, thus violating an order to stay away from her. Police lodged Hulst in the Chittenden County Correctional Center following the March 13 incident.
In other action between March 12 and 18, Vergennes police:
•  On March 12 checked out a suspicious car in the Aubuchon Hardware parking lot.
•  On March 12 cited Gregory Costa, 34, of Burlington for possession of marijuana, speeding and driving an uninsured vehicle following a Route 22 traffic stop near the Panton-Addison town line.
•  On March 12 sent the department Drug Recognition Expert to New Haven to help Vermont State Police test a driver who had been involved in an accident; police said the Vergennes and VSP DREs determined the driver was under the influence of LSD.
•  On March 12 dealt with a noise complaint at a Main Street apartment building.
•  On March 13 cited a New Jersey resident into court for excessive speed after stopping his car for doing 71 mph in a 30 mph West Main Street zone.
•  On March 13 went to Oven Bay Road in Addison seeking to find a man wanted on a firearms warrant by U.S. marshals, but did not find him.
•  On March 13 went to the home of a student who was reported truant from Vergennes Union High School and discovered he was sick.
•  On March 13 went to a Main Street apartment building to check a report a man was displaying a gun, but could not find him.
•  On March 13 served a relief-from-abuse order to a Sand Road, Ferrisburgh, resident at the request of Family Court.
•  On March 13 dealt with a White Street barking dog complaint.
•  On March 14 issues a relief-prevention order to a Walker Avenue resident.
•  On March 14 accepted unused prescription drugs for destruction.
•  On March 14 stood by while a TV and a Blu-Ray player were repossessed from a South Maple Street apartment.
•  On March 14 calmed a custody dispute at a Main Street apartment.
•  On March 14 and 15 helped motorists get into their locked cars on South Maple and Main streets.
•  On March 15 received a tip about illegal drug activity.
•  On March 15 calmed a resident who had threatened Vergennes-Panton Water District officials when they said they would have to shut off her water if she did not make payments; police said she promised to make arrangements for a payment plan.
•  On March 15 began investigating a false Craigslist posting in which a teenage girl’s age was misrepresented by a third party.
•  On March 16 were told a purse had been stolen from a car parked at the Little City Family Practice.
•  On March 17 unsuccessfully searched for a drunken driver reported on Main Street.
•  On March 17 dealt with a minor two-car accident on South Maple Street; one driver was ticketed for driving with a suspended license.
•  On March 17 calmed a Sand Road resident in Ferrisburgh who was disorderly in dealing with a fire warden responding to an allegedly illegal burn.
•  On March 17 looked for two cars near the Otter Creek bridge reportedly driven by drunken drivers, but they were gone when police arrived.
•  On March 18 checked a report of vandalized lights at the Ferrisburgh commuter lot and determined they had been damaged in an earlier incident.
•  On March 18 cited Megan Hedley, 24, of Leicester for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said her blood-alcohol content tested at 0.058 percent, lower than the legal limit of 0.08 percent, but said the test was conducted two hours after the traffic stop and that she showed signs of impairment at the stop. 
•  On March 18 asked the owner of a car blocking a North Street driveway to move it.
•  On March 18 checked a report of a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of School and Green streets and learned a property owner was removing trash.
