Bristol seeks town song for 250th birthday celebration
BRISTOL — The town of Bristol will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the granting of its charter this summer and the 250th Anniversary Committee is looking for help ringing in the birthday with a new song.
The public is invited to enter submissions to Bristol’s 250th Anniversary Celebration Song Contest. The winner will receive $100 cash prize, plus have their song performed at several upcoming Bristol events, including the debut at Pocock Rocks Music Festival and Street Fair on Saturday, June 16.
To be eligible, the committee asks that songwriters have some sort of personal affiliation with the town or people of Bristol.
“Perhaps someone in your family worked at the Bristol Inn, or maybe the music of the old Bristol Railroad runs through your blood,” a committee member wrote. “Perhaps you went to school here, or couldn’t imagine your summer without listening to the Bristol Band on the green. If this is you, you are invited to enter.”
The topic of the song should address Bristol, its people, history, and community life.
The deadline is June 1, and the entry fee is $10. Make checks payable to: Bristol’s 250th Committee. Registrants must submit a recorded sample of song by Friday, June 1, or come in and play the song for the panel of judges on June 1, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Abraham Union High School Music Room.
An online submission form can be found at http://bit.ly/wXDGMq.
Submit this form electronically, or by mail to Bristol 250th Songwriting Contest, Attn: Megan LaRose, 220 Airport Drive, Bristol, VT 05443. Entry fees and recorded submissions go to the same address.
The recorded version of the song may instead be emailed to [email protected]
The winner will selected and notified by Saturday, June 2, which should give plenty of time to tune up the song for its June 16 public premiere.
