MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to the reported assault of a 19-year-old man while he was walking a dog on Main Street on Dec. 28 at around 8:30 p.m. Police said two men allegedly pushed the victim from behind, causing him to fall. The men then allegedly punched and kicked the victim, dislocating his right shoulder, according to police. The victim was treated at Porter Hospital.
The assailants then got into a four-door truck — which police identified as a red or maroon, full-size, newer model pick up, possibly a Ford — and drove south on Main Street, according to police. The suspects were described as being “taller in height with average builds.” One of the suspects was said to be wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Helped a customer extricate her credit card from a payment machine at the Village Car Wash on Creek Road on Dec. 26.
•  Responded to a report of a Case Street resident burning household garbage outside on Dec. 26. The resident extinguished the fire.
•  Received a report of the theft of a bottle of wine from the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Dec. 27. Police said a store employee alleged that a black male took the wine and told him not to call the authorities.
•  Removed an unwanted drunk man from a John Graham Court apartment on Dec. 28.
•  Assisted a Cross Street resident who claimed she had been threatened by another woman on Dec. 28.
•  Investigated an alleged domestic assault at a Seminary Street Extension residence on Dec. 28.
•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Cross Street apartment building on Dec. 28.
•  Assisted a disoriented, elderly man who had mistaken Middlebury College’s Painter House as his dentist’s office on Dec. 29. Police said the man had driven across a curb and a long stretch of grass to get into the Painter House parking lot. The man’s dentist came to pick him up, according to police.
•  Cited Adrian A. Moore, 20, of Middlebury for attempted larceny and violation of the condition of his release, after he allegedly broke into a vehicle parked behind the National Bank of Middlebury off Main Street on Dec. 29.
•  Assisted Porter Hospital officials with an unruly patient on Dec. 29.
•  Found a woman sleeping in the turbine pipe in the old mill off Printer’s Alley, above the Otter Creek, on Dec. 31. Police said the woman reported she had been sleeping in the turbine for several weeks. Police took the woman to the Blue Spruce Motel and referred her to the anti-poverty organization Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects for a more permanent solution to her housing problem.
•  Took into protective custody a very drunk woman who was struggling to get up off the ground near North Pleasant Street. Police said the woman became combative and had to be taken to Porter Hospital and placed in arm and leg restraints.
•  Received a report of a man sleeping in a box outside of the Neat Repeats store off Bakery Lane on Dec. 31. Police said the man eventually went to his parents’ house.
•  Responded to a report of a broken water main in front of 47 Seymour St. on Dec. 31.
•  Cited David J. Gagnon, 44, of Middlebury for first-degree aggravated domestic assault following an alleged incident in the Case Street area on Dec. 31.
•  Forced their way into a Halpin Road home on Dec. 31 to provide aid to a woman who had allegedly texted a friend that she was going to kill herself. Police said the woman admitted to taking a sleeping pill and alcohol. Police took the woman to Porter Hospital for monitoring.
•  Cited Christopher L. Ardell, 41, of Middlebury for simple assault and disorderly conduct following an incident at the Town Hall Theater event on Merchants Row on Dec. 31. Police allege Ardell arrived at the theater drunk and was asked to leave after having his money refunded. Police allege that Ardell punched a person on his way out of the theater.
•  Assisted ambulance officials in responding to a North Pleasant Street residence where a man was having a bad reaction to his medication on Jan. 1.
