ADDISON COUNTY — On Dec. 21 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Vermont State Police Trooper Andrew Leise stopped a 1995 Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound on Route 7 in New Haven after he saw it being driven approximately one vehicle length behind a vehicle directly in front of it at speeds between 58-60 miles per hour.
During the stop, VSP K9 “Argus” sniffed around the car and alerted on it, indicating to police that illegal drugs were present.
Police said the driver, 24-year-old Joshua K. Rowe of Burlington, gave his consent for a search of the Jeep, and police found what they identified as approximately 21.8 grams of suspected marijuana and three suspected MDMA, or “ecstasy,” pills inside Rowe’s vehicle.
Rowe was transported to the state police barracks and cited for driving with a criminally suspended license (second offense), possession of marijuana and possession of MDMA. He was also issued a ticket for following too closely, which, if convicted, carries a $214 fine and adds three points to insurance.
Rowe’s vehicle was towed from the scene and his registration plates were seized as he is currently criminally suspended from driving.
In other recent activity, VSP:
•  Looked into an incident on Dec. 19 at 11 p.m. in which William Billings, 24, of Hinesburg allegedly entered the residence of his ex-partner and engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical. The victim stated that upon leaving the residence Billings damaged the victim’s new vehicle. Billings was cited for domestic violence, unlawful mischief and unlawful trespass.
•  On Dec. 20 at 10:19 p.m. stopped a vehicle driven by Heather Kandzior, 30, for driving on the wrong side of Plank Road in New Haven. During the stop the trooper found that Kandzior was driving with a criminally suspended license and had an active arrest warrant out of Chittenden County. She was processed at the New Haven barracks for driving with a criminally suspended license and violation of conditions of release and lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Facility on the arrest warrant.
•  On Dec. 21 at 9:42 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle driven by Daniel Dubois, 30, of Middlebury on Route 22A in Orwell for traveling in the wrong lane. Police cited Dubois for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Dec. 21 were called to investigate the theft of an unsecured 1995 Triton 10-foot-by-8-foot snowmobile trailer from a seasonal camp off West Side Drive in Leicester. The estimated value of the trailer is approximately $500. Anyone with any leads or information is asked to contact VSP in New Haven at 1-802-388-4919.
•  On Dec. 22 at approximately 1:38 p.m. cited Karl Thomsen, 53, of Whiting for driving under the influence on Route 103 south of the village of Cuttingsville in the town of Shrewsbury. Senior Trooper Jeremy Peters reported that he was following Thomsen’s vehicle and noticed that the vehicle was swerving within its lane and the driver appeared to be texting while driving. While the trooper was following the vehicle to an appropriate location to conduct a motor vehicle stop, the vehicle crossed the yellow centerline several times. Peters reported one time the vehicle crossed the centerline and came very close to hitting a tractor-trailer truck head on.
The trooper said he immediately activated his blue emergency lights and stopped Thomsen’s vehicle, conducted a roadside sobriety test, arrested Thomsen and took him to the Ludlow Police Department for processing.
 
•  On Dec. 24 cited Athanasios Theodoropoulos, 51, of New Haven for driving under the influence of alcohol on Route 7 in New Haven.
•  On Dec. 24 arrested Collin Bell, 28 of Bristol at Blaise’s Trailer Park in Bristol on an outstanding arrest warrant for burglary. He was lodged for lack of $10,000 bail. Bell is accused of stealing $6,000 worth of copper from a camp in Lincoln.
•  On Dec. 26 were called to investigate a burglary at a Monkton camp. The assailants had forced entry into a secured camp and pump house, damaging two hasps, which are valued at approximately $15. Nothing was stolen from the camp. police suspect the individual(s) who entered the camp were possibly looking for copper pipe as cabinets near the kitchen sink were left open and the pump house also contained piping. The piping at the camp was all plastic, not copper. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP New Haven at 1-802-388-4919.
