VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with mostly routine issues between Dec. 19 and 25, including one domestic dispute, an ongoing barking dog problem, violations of the city’s winter parking ban, and motorists in need of a helping hand.
In that seven-day span, Vergennes police:
•  On Dec. 19 checked out a report of erratic driving on Panton Road, but found no one.
•  On Dec. 19 cited Isaac L. Fleming, 31, for unlawful restraint, second degree, for allegedly preventing a woman from leaving a Monkton Road home. Police said Fleming told them he was stopping the woman from pursuing an illegal activity.
•  On Dec. 20 spoke to a woman who was upset about a Facebook posting alleging that several men and women, including Vergennes residents, were either police informants or persons with loose morals.
•  On Dec. 20 helped a motorist with a locked car at the Post Office.
•  On Dec. 20 spoke to Northlands Job Corps staff and discussed how to identify signs of gang membership and illegal drug use.
•  On Dec. 20 checked a report of a man skinning a cat at the intersection of North Maple and North streets; police learned it was a rabbit.
•  On Dec. 20 were told of a suspicious car parked behind the Bixby Library and discovered a man sitting in it filling out unemployment forms.
•  On Dec. 20 issued a city ticket for unreasonable noise to the owner of barking dogs at a Booska Court home, a regular action in recent weeks.
•  On Dec. 21 picked up a Panton student and took him to Vergennes Union High School.
•  On Dec. 21 helped a motorist with a locked car on Main Street.
•  On Dec. 21 helped the Vergennes Fire Department by directing traffic at a house fire on Basin Harbor Road in Ferrisburgh.
•  On Dec. 21 responded to the scene of an accident on Monkton Road in which a car struck a 13-year-old boy, causing scrapes on his back. Police said the youth, who admitted fault, stepped out between cars in a line of traffic next to Champlain Farms into the eastbound lane.
•  On Dec. 23 issued 10 tickets for violations of the city’s winter ban on overnight street parking.
•  On Dec. 23 were told an elderly man had driven about a quarter-mile on Monkton Road in the wrong lane; police identified the driver and referred the case to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
•  On Dec. 23 accepted a report of two cars parked in a School Street lot in the middle of the night with people around them acting suspiciously.
•  On Dec. 23 joined Middlebury and Vermont State police in operating a sobriety checkpoint in Middlebury.
•  On Dec. 24 took a drunken woman from the John Graham Shelter to a detoxification center in Burlington.
•  On Dec. 24 helped the driver of a car broken down at the junction of Routes 7 and 22A call a tow truck and find a ride.
