BRISTOL — In the past two weeks, Bristol police have dealt with a variety of incidents, including ones involving unruly citizens, thefts and sick people and animals.
During the period Bristol police:
•  On Oct. 31 received a report that a credit card was stolen and used at two banks in the village.
•  On Oct. 31 responded to a report that a complainant’s daughter had a shouting match with her boyfriend at Kountry Trailer Park. By the time Police Chief Kevin Gibbs arrived, the situation had calmed down.
•  On Oct. 31 received a report of an infant left in a vehicle. When an officer arrived, the baby was gone and the police will send the owner of the car a letter about the incident. Although such activity is not necessarily illegal, Gibbs said leaving an infant in a car unattended is “really not a good idea.”
•  On Nov. 1 checked the welfare of a man who threatened to end his life. He was evaluated at Porter Hospital and later released.
“We have a right to hold someone who we deem to be a danger to themselves or others,” said Gibbs, who added that the Counseling Service of Addison County found the man was not a danger to himself or others.
•  On Nov. 1 at the same time as the previous welfare check, a family member of another individual called the police to run a similar welfare check. Since the officer was busy, the family member checked on the individual herself.
•  On Nov. 1 received a report of someone running through backyards. The officer did not identify any damage, theft or person.
•  On Nov. 1 found a stolen truck next to Lord’s Prayer Rock on Rockydale Road. The truck was reported stolen by the Middlebury Police Department.
•  On Nov. 5 were told by a Kountry Trailer Park resident that a nine-year-old boy assaulted a seven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl. Based on the officer’s investigation, the injuries were caused by a playful wrestling match. 
“Twenty years ago, you never would have called the police for that,” Gibbs said.
•  On Nov. 6 responded to a Main Street apartment where, police said, an intoxicated couple got into a shouting match.  “The disturbance was verbal only, so no action was taken,” said Gibbs.
•  On Nov. 8 were told that a Sherwood RX4100 AM/FM stereo receiver was found abandoned on the picnic table outside of Holley Hall.
“It could be something that someone just dumped, or it could be something that someone stole. We don’t know … but it looks like it’s in good shape,” said Gibbs.
•  On Nov. 8 responded to a two-car collision on West Street. Police said one of the drivers involved, 18-year-old Nicole Hamer of Addison, did not have insurance and the plates on her vehicle were assigned to another vehicle. Gibbs said tickets will soon be issued.
•  Minutes after the above crash on Nov. 8, police cited Hamer for disorderly conduct after a reported fight in front of Merchants Bank on West Street.
“Hamer apparently left the scene of the crash … ran into someone she had an ongoing dispute with in front of the bank and they fought within minutes of the crash,” said Gibbs. “Hamer was actually arrested the following day after the victim reported being assaulted by Hamer.”
Hamer was able to prove that the fight was mutual so the alleged victim will be charged with disorderly conduct and a possible false report to police, Gibbs said.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 the woman who fought with Hamer returned to her car to find three of her four tires slashed by a knife.
•  On the morning of Nov. 9 received a report that a sick skunk had curled up and died on Mountain Street. The road crew disposed of the skunk before police could deal with the situation.
•  On Nov. 9 responded to a woman who was found unconscious in her car in the Rite Aid parking lot. The Bristol Rescue Squad transported her to Porter Hospital.
•  On Nov. 9 received a report from Shaw’s Supermarket of a Nov. 4 theft. Caught on camera were a man and a woman who entered the store and filled a shopping cart full of food. The woman, described as 5-feet-6-inches tall and 22-25 years of age, went out the exit, came in the entrance door and held it open. The man, described as 6 feet tall and 30-35 years of age, walked out the entrance without paying for the food. The man was clean-shaven, wearing a grey knit hat with a black bottom edge, a dark blue coat with light blue shoulders and a light blue symbol and a dark hooded sweatshirt. The woman, weighing about 120 pounds, was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with yellow across the front, blue jeans and a gold colored bracelet on her right wrist.
•  On Nov. 10 and Nov. 14 checked out the activation of the alarm at the Living Well Community Care home. A tenant having a cigarette triggered the alarm on Nov. 14. There was no burglary on either date.
•  On Nov. 10 warned a former tenant to stop making harassing calls to a Mountain Street landlord and to stay away from the property.
•  On Nov. 11 received a report that someone knocked on the door of a Lauritsen Lane residence at 1:20 a.m. The knocker left. When an officer arrived a neighbor reported a similar incident.
•  On Nov. 11 received a report of a man lying in a ditch and pounding the ground with his first near Mountain Street. When the officer arrived, he didn’t find anyone.
•  On Nov. 11 were told by a Church Street resident that she had found four youths who had pelted her house with coffee cups. There had been a dance at Holley Hall that finished just before this incident.
•  On Nov. 11 received an incomplete report that a vehicle had backed into a parked car, which was illegally parked.
