Vermont State Police Log: DUI, drug calls keep police busy
ADDISON COUNTY — In the past week or so, Vermont State Police charged area residents with a variety of crimes, including possession of drugs or stolen property and driving under the influence. In recent activity, troopers have:
• On Nov. 2 at 1:40 a.m. stopped a car on North Street in New Haven and ended up citing Adam Josey, 24, of Richmond for driving under the influence. Police said his blood alcohol content was 0.104 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.
• On Nov. 2 at about 3:30 p.m. stopped a car occupied by three 19-year-olds on North Street in Monkton after the driver took off at a high rate of speed. A trooper stopped the car driven by Jacob Bachand of East Middlebury and cited him for careless and negligent driving. Police said a consent search of the vehicle revealed that passenger Erik Mayer of Bristol was in possession of brass knuckles and heroin; he was cited for illegal possession of narcotics and a weapon. Police said another passenger, Nichole Hamer of Addison, was in possession of prescription pills that she did not have a prescription for.
• On Nov. 4 cited Rachel Cormicle, 26, for possession of stolen property. Police said they had investigated the Oct. 3 report of a burglary and theft off of the Bristol-Monkton Road, which lead them to believe that Cormicle sold the stolen items at Plato’s Closet in Williston. Plato’s Closet was able to return the property to the VSP to return to the victim.
• On Nov. 4 at 10:30 p.m. stopped a car driven on Plank Road in New Haven by David Savage, 51, of South Starksboro for speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign. Following the standard field sobriety exercises and roadside breath test, Savage was transported to the New Haven state police barracks, submitted to the Datamaster breath test, and processed for driving under the influence.
• On Nov. 4 at approximately 11:15 p.m. responded to a report of a vehicle off Richmond Road in Hinesburg. Police cited Melissa Trudeau, 22, of Brandon for driving under the influence. No injuries were observed.
• While on patrol on Nov. 5 at 11:45 p.m., came upon a vehicle parked on the side of Plank Road in Bristol with all of its lights off. The trooper stopped to check what was up and reports that he found the occupants were smoking marijuana. The driver, Christopher Jenkins, 21, of Richmond, was cited for possession of approximately 1.5 ounces of marijuana.
• On Nov. 6 stopped a car for speeding on Swamp Road in Cornwall driven by Kaleb Shepard, 20, of Vergennes. Police ended up citing him for driving with a suspended license and violation of conditions of release.
