VERGENNES — Vergennes police are investigating the Saturday theft of a ceremonial Native American spearhead from the Bixby Library.
Police said a library employee discovered at about 1 p.m. on Saturday a glass display case in a second-story room had been damaged and the spearhead was missing.
Police are following at least one lead in the case, they said.
In other incidents between Oct. 3 and 9, Vergennes police:
•  On Oct 3 tried unsuccessfully to find a suspicious woman in the parking lot of a Main Street apartment building.
•  On Oct. 3 cited Edward Hanlon, 52, of New Haven for driving under the influence after stopping his car on Route 7 in Waltham for lacking a valid registration. Police allege that Hanlon’s blood-alcohol content tested at 0.125 percent. The legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.
•  On Oct. 4 checked a report of a student missing from Vergennes Union High School and discovered the student was sick.
•  On Oct. 4 helped the owner of a disabled car on Green Street by arranging for it to be towed.
•  On Oct. 4 accepted unused pain medication for destruction.
•  On Oct. 4 went with the department canine to help Vermont State Police at a Route 22A traffic stop; the dog alerted on the car, but no drugs were found.
•  On Oct. 5 cited a VUHS student for possession of marijuana after school officials found the drug in his backpack; that search was conducted after a teacher smelled marijuana in a men’s room.
•  On Oct. 5 cited Lawrence Hall, 21, of Panton for lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor. Police said the Department of Children and Families alerted them to a Sept. 12 incident in which Hall allegedly inappropriately touched a 12-year-old.
•  On Oct. 5 made the first of three visits in three days along with Vergennes Area Rescue Squad personnel to a Walker Avenue apartment to help an elderly woman; on Oct. 7 VARS took her to Fletcher Allen Health Care for evaluation.
•  On Oct. 6 took a report that someone had driven away from Champlain Farms without paying for gasoline.
•  On Oct. 6 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Monkton Road.
•  On Oct. 8 helped VSP by looking into a 911 hang-up call in Ferrisburgh.
•  On Oct. 8 helped a motorist get into a locked car on South Water Street.
•  On Oct. 8 told a New Hampshire parent that her son could not practice driving in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot with his out-of-state learner’s permit.
•  On Oct. 8 were told a woman’s wallet had been stolen from a bag left in her car, which was parked on North Street.
•  On Oct. 8 served a Family Court subpoena to a School Street resident, an act done at the request of Newport, R.I., police.
