VERGENNES — Vergennes police have recently issued a number of drug-related citations, some stemming from an earlier argument outside a New Haven Road home.
Police said earlier in September they responded to a dispute between a couple on New Haven Road. An investigation triggered by information gathered during that incident eventually led to charges against three people, they said.
Cited were Christopher Sumner, 29, of Ferrisburgh for illegal possession of prescription painkillers; Kimber Mills, 23, a Middlebury resident police said had been staying in Vergennes, for illegal possession of prescription painkillers; and Zebulon Brinkman, 28, of Vergennes for conspiracy to sell regulated drugs.
Police on Sept. 30 also cited Northlands Job Corps student Carl Glennerster, 24, of Albany, N.Y., for possession of marijuana after responding to a trespassing complaint at 1 Alden Place. Police said Glennerster was among four Northlands students they saw on the property after responding.
Police said that on that call they saw a plastic bag being thrown, and discovered marijuana in it. Glennerster admitted it was his, and police cited him. Police cited the other three students for trespassing because they had earlier refused to leave the site.
On Sept. 29, Vergennes police also aided Bristol police in their investigation of a robbery at a Bristol residential care home in which robbers brandishing baseball bats demanded drugs, and on Sept. 26 along with a school official counseled a Vergennes Union High School student who had earlier in September been cited for drug possession.
In other incidents between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2, Vergennes police:
•  On Sept. 26 and 27 helped motorists get into locked cars on Booska Court and North Maple and Main streets.
•  On Sept. 26 issued a no-trespass order to a female Maple Manor resident on behalf of a Colchester resident.
•  On Sept. 26 worked with Rutland police, who issued a no-trespass order to a man being released from the Marble Valley Correctional Center and had threatened to come to Vergennes Union Elementary School to get his child; the man did not show up.
•  On Sept. 26 began an investigation of a domestic dispute at Riverside Apartments in which a woman allegedly struck a man in the leg with her car.
•  On Sept. 26 calmed a domestic dispute at a Booska Court home.
•  On Sept. 27 on behalf of Vermont State Police calmed a domestic dispute on Fiddlehead Road in Ferrisburgh.
•  On Sept. 27 took a report from a Main Street resident that over the course of two weeks a number of items had been stolen from her apartment, including a Wii and games, a computer and a Blu-Ray player.
•  On Sept. 27 told a group of local youths hanging around the Route 22A park-and-ride lot late in the evening to move along.
•  On Sept. 27 cited a teen for possession of alcohol near the Otter Creek bridge.
•  On Sept. 28 responded to an attempted burglary at Champlain Farms (see story in Sept. 29 edition of the Independent and follow-up story in this edition).
•  On Sept. 28 began, along with Department of Children and Families officials, an investigation into possible sex abuse of a 9-year-old boy.
•  On Sept. 29 referred to DCF a report of possible abuse of a 10-year-old child by his father, a report filed by the child’s mother.
•  On Sept. 29 dealt with the theft of copper pipes, windows and power tools from the Armory Lane construction site of the elderly housing project.
•  On Sept. 29 directed traffic around a disabled tractor-trailer truck near the Otter Creek bridge.
•  On Sept. 29 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a Main Street call.
•  On Sept. 29 accepted a debit card that a citizen had found and contacted the bank to notify its owner.
•  On Sept. 29 contacted VARS on behalf of a Champlain Farms patron in need of medical assistance.
•  On Sept. 30 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Main Street.
•  On Sept. 30 were told a window of a van parked on Walker Avenue had been smashed.
•  On Sept. 30 helped Northlands officials deal with a student who became unruly when leaving the program.
•  On Sept. 30 delivered a message to a woman staying at the Whispering Pines campground in Panton that a relative had been injured in a New York accident.
•  On Oct. 1 accepted a wallet that a citizen had found and left a message for its owner.
•  On Oct. 1 accepted a learner’s permit that a citizen had found and attempted to reach its owner.
•  On Oct. 1 helped VSP at a drunk-driving stop on Route 7 in New Haven.
•  On Oct. 1 cited Stacy Paquin, 40, of Panton for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police responded to a complaint of a disorderly patron at the Up Top Café and learned the woman had left, but were also told her license plate number and headed out to Panton and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Panton Road and Jersey Street. Police said Paquin’s blood-alcohol content tested at 0.282, about three-and-a-half times the legal limit for driving. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.
•  On Oct. 2 directed traffic while firefighters handled a Main Street fire call.
•  On Oct. 2 checked a report of an open door and people inside VUHS, but found no one.
