Vermont State Police Log: Woman hits black bear on Route 7 in Salisbury

ADDISON COUNTY — A Brandon woman got a scare Monday morning when the car she was driving on Route 7 in Salisbury struck a black bear.
Vermont State Police reported that  on Labor Day at around 8:30 a.m., Dawn Marie Nicholson, 41, was driving a 1995 Dodge Intrepid northbound on Route 7 at 50-55 mph when a black bear ran in front of her from the east running west. The Intrepid collided with the bear in the northbound lane. The trooper described the road condition as wet.
Nicholson was not injured. Her Intrepid sustained minor front-end damage, but she was able to drive the car away.
The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department was contacted for removal of the 100-pound bear.
The police issued no tickets or warnings.
In other recent activity, VSP:
•  On Aug. 30 at about 5 p.m. stopped a car driven by Shaun Rublee, 24, of Bristol for speeding on Route 116 in Bristol. The trooper cited Rublee for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Aug. 31 at a little after 5 p.m. stopped a car driven on River Road in New Haven by Bruce Wright, 40, of Shoreham and cited him driving with a criminally suspended license. Wright was processed at the New Haven Barracks and released with a citation to appear at the Addison County Criminal Division.
•  On Sept. 2 reported that their investigation of an Aug. 26 burglary was wrapping up. On the 26 at around 2:20 p.m., VSP had been alerted to a burglary in progress; it was reported that a juvenile was inside the Monkton residence with a rifle of some kind. Upon arrival state police could not locate anyone inside the residence. The homeowner provided police with a picture of the suspect, and troopers located and cited the 14-year-old juvenile for burglary on Aug. 30. The juvenile is scheduled to answer the charge on Oct. 6 in Addison County District Court.
