Route 125 in Ripton could be open Saturday
RIPTON — State transportation officials on Friday said Route 125 from East Middlebury to the Hancock town line could be open to local traffic as soon as Saturday, Sept. 3.
The road suffered several washouts in last Sunday’s Tropical Storm Irene-related flooding. Traffic was rerouted via the Dugway and North Branch Road.
Kevin Marchia, state highway safety and design engineer, stressed the restored road conditions would initially be very Spartan — basic gravel — and cautioned that only local traffic should use the stretch of Route 125 until it is repaired enough to accommodate through traffic.
He noted the portion of Route 125 from the Middlebury Snow Bowl to Route 100 in Hancock remains closed with no certain timetable yet for its re-opening.
